The way Big South tourney is formatted, it appears they want the regular season champ to get NCAA bid over other schools. VMI was a better team at end of seson than they were when they played UNCA earlier in year.

They do (or i guess i should now say 'did', since the format is changing next year) want the regular season champ have the easiest road to the NCAA bid, and i've never had a problem with that. Gives an incentive to play well all season...and it still allows everyone else a chance, you just have a tougher road than the top seed.

Yes. That's sort of the benefit of winning the regular season. ANY team can make a tourney run, and at least 1 or 2 do every year. But if VMI were the better team at the end of the year they would have beaten UNCA or at least made it close. Perhaps UNCA was just the better team?
Also, wouldn't it be expected that a team is better at the end of the year then they were at the beginning of the year? Look at LU.

Most recent bracketology doesn't have UNCA in a play-in game. They may even slide up to 15 before this is all said and done.
