great improvement.

I really like the freshmen. Carter also looked really good.

Kyle needs to stick to jumpers.

I would like to see Jesse pull up and shoot a jumper when he drives

Let's not forget that Carter IS a freshman. He's been on campus for a year, but his career is really just getting started.

It is very encouraging to see that the team recovered from the awful last 2 games and give ND a fairly good game. Hopefully we can improve on this good performance. Gordon and McMasters had great games.

Actually, they won their first game by 16, but all the rest have been 20+. To tell the truth they have played nothing but cupcakes this year.

on a side note I really liked the ND radio guys for the most part. seemed to be homers but were very complementary of the guys and their effort. i guess it is easy to do that when you win though.

I just noticed that we had 5 players in double figures. That's great balance. Really good to see David Minaya have some production. We need offense from him.

Looking more at the box score, we shot a higher % than ND from the floor, from 3 and from the line, and were only outrebounded 38-32. The game was lost with turnovers and fouls. I think as the season progresses, those are things we can fix with good coaching. This game was about as encouraging as a 19 point loss can be.

Missed the game but from the box score and reading the thread it sounds like some of our guys are coming around! Way to go fellas! :clapping

Coach is starting to get these guys to play like a team! I am a big CM and Konan fan so far this season. I think Perez will be good too once he finds his confidence. Here's hoping for more steps forward against Northwestern!

My Thoughts:
Ohman-Needs to be more of a role player kind of guy, when he trys to do too much he is horrible. When he is just a catch and shoot guy he does a good job.
Konan- I really like this guy, he's always giving us extra opportunities with his offensive rebounding and tip-ins.
Minaya- He started showing signs of what he is capable of. I know that he can step up and be the leading scorer.
Perez-Didn't do too much, really needs to stop passing up open shots.
Gordon-I like this kid, but he needs to stop passing up shots too because I know he can shoot.
Burrus-More of an athelte than a basketball player but he is coming around.
Weaver-Needs more playing time
Jesse-He was showing signs of the way he played last year.
Carter- I really like him, he needs more muscle though
James- I want to see more of him
Jeremy- I don't know whats up with him, he changed his shot since freshman year and it's not working

I've been thinking the same thing. His stroke looks jerky and rushed. I think if he relaxes, it goes back to where it was.

They were big fans of C-Mac, but they kept joking that Konan was only 6'4" at best.

Aftering getting down 28 i thought we were headed for another 30+ whooping, seems crazy to feel positive about the 19+ defeat. Looking at the turnovers KO had no assist and 6 tournovers, but good to see Jesse with 8 assist.

South Bend's take.
I got a kick out of this quote from a player:

“It's hard sometimes (to play) when there's not a lot of people,” said junior Tyrone Nash, who scored a career-high 12 points. “But we just have to find the energy within ourselves.”

They had less than 1500 empty seats in an arena that holds 9150. You would have to look hard to see it wasn't 100% full. Maybe they just weren't as loud as they would be for a Big East opponent. Probably not many students because of break and more of a local crowd.

Don't they count the no show season ticket holders...looks to be a sparse crowd.

I was gonna say I remember seeing the first 3 rows empty in the corners.

Still got a ways to go, but we're showing some good signs. Didnt quit, played some good D, played some good O at times. Had a couple 3 minute lapses, but other than that an overall good game for where were at. Gotta work on Transition D and Offense vs. Man to Man.

Positive game for us.

I'm late hopping into the UND conversation. I was at the game and sat right behind the Gordon family (very nice folks). Liberty played very well. The crowd was not at capacity. Carter's almost put back dunk had the crowd buzzing. The refs thought Charlie Weiss (I mean Harangody) was fouled every time he touched the ball. Some were legit calls and others were awful. He looks like the Hansbrough of the Midwest. I wish the Flames would have gotten Carter more touches in the post. Pick and roll was there, as the guard had to match up with McMasters down low. From the floor, it looked like Ohman was forcing his play, especially after he picked up the fouls that he did. Gordon is going to be a good one. Sanders is a tough cookie--fun to watch. Konan did not back down at all and Burrus didn't let Harangody have his way either. Coach Layer got under the skin of one of the refs (fun to listen to) and he had a valid point. A foul at one end was not a foul at the other. Harangody does have a soft touch. Loved to hear the bench talking to the players on the floor by telling them who the "shooter" was, etc. They were also giving Carter instructions for low post play. It looks like this could be an exciting team to watch this year. I'm glad my family and I were able to see the lads play. By the by, I think I saw Liberty's Chancellor at the game. He and his family sat in front of us and quite a few people were talking to him after the game. He was loud and proud during the game. My son was also able to meet Liberty's SID Eric Brown before the game. Eric took the time to talk to my son (interested in studying it in college) about the SID profession and was a big help. Appreciate Eric being generous with his time, especially before a big game. Good luck Flames on the rest of the season.

Welcome to the board.

I have no idea if that was Jr or not, but nothing made Doc happier than the thought of a Notre Dame game
