That's the only thing I can think of.

On one hand, Meyer has said he wanted the job and would take it on the spot if offered.

On the other is Ritchie who also wanted the job.

It would take one phone call to either and it would be done.

So, following that logic:

Hoffman said no/we turned Hoffman down (whichever it was).

We called Jeff McKay/Ritchie Meyer, offered, they said yes.

It makes sense.

Which means we're hiring Gregg Marshall.
