Of the 5 mentioned on the latest Flames Nation, I would like to see Meyer get the job. Not super impressed with Reed based on what I have read. But JB knows a whole lot more than I do and I trust he will make the right decision. The guy from UCLA is REAL intriguing, but he doesn't have any head coaching experience, which will probably eliminate him.

David Grace has in fact been a successful HC at the HS and AAU level along with his work as a high major assistant. It's not quite the same as being a college HC, but it does mean he has experience making decisions, as opposed to guys like Williford and Jordan, who have spent their entire coaching careers making recommendations.

I'm surprised noone has commented on his last name. Lang must be drooling over the prospect of article headlines like "Can Grace save wretched LU basketball program?" The possibilities are endless.

Understand the sentimental appeal of Meyer but that's all. I could get very excited about Crutchfield or Reed. That's a heck of a decision. Don't think there is a wrong answer to which one.

I would go with Hoffman then sutton following Meyer, reed and crutchfield. Hoffman can recruit and is a proven winner. Sutton/Meyer are about equal both can recruit and have won at a Christian school. Other two are unknowns.

Too safe. Looks like OSHA's top 5 ranking.

He was hired at GMU today, which is an interesting hire that either could be truly amazing or a complete bust. I hope Spiker is still on the list.
I agree about Paulsen.

As far as Spiker, I think that he would be an excellent hire: young, head coaching experience, first-hand knowledge of the Big South under Gregg Marshall, worked with John Beilein at WVU and Steve Donahue at Cornell. No head coach has done as well at Army since Knight and Krzyzewski. I hope that he's on our list.

When I saw Crutchfield, I thought it was Jim Crutchfield, who has built a D2 dynasty at West Liberty University. Don't know if he is interested in a house with a swimming pool, but I like his resume better than the Oklahoma assistant Chris Crutchfield, who has just 2 years as a JUCO HC. They do not appear to be related. 8)

He may not end up here but I'd put money on that bet. All rumors point to him being very interested in the position.

I retract my zero chance and say there is an extremely slim chance. if he does it will solely because mercer cannot out bid liberty. He and his wife are very involved in his church. he just got a raise and he's turned down several Fbs conference jobs. That's why I say that. However if liberty is willing to throw a ton of money to get him great. I love the guy he's awesome. my only fear is his age.

Can someone please clue me in on the "house with a swimming pool" bit? I spent some time at a buddy's place during my day at LU. His folks lived in the Forest area, in a house with an indoor pool.

Do you know what fbs jobs he was offered? Just curious. He looks older than 57 but he kind of reminds me of doc for some reason. His most recent track record looks better to me.

It goes back to the 07 coaching search when Barber used the analogy of a house with a swimming pool to try to illustrate how a coaching job at Liberty is not for everyone. Basically, it means not only being a Christian, but being comfortable with the role of offering at least a degree of spiritual leadership to his team, comes with the territory.

Hoffman certainly wouldn't have to go far for intel on the challenges of the LU gig. He sits in the office next to his. What are the odds that Jason is back at LU as an assistant if Hoffman gets the job?

I am thinking the same thing. Part of the reason I don't think he takes the LU job is because I highly doubt LU would agree to bring him back.

There is a lot of different things that make me think this isn't going to happen. Some of which I don't want to post out of respect for Coach Hoffman. The guy is awesome. Always a pleasure to work with and A Godly man. He and his wife are very involved in the church my wife and I attend. I absolutely would love to have Hoffman at liberty. It would be a homerun hire but i just dont see it happening.

It may not be Reed. Princeton great Pete Carril lives in the Lehigh Valley. He may be 84 years old, but heck... he's still Pete Carril! Anyway, I live up here in the Valley. Reed would definitely be making a career step forward in going to Liberty.
No go on the Lehigh Valley unless Barber is really bumming it in a little Cessna Skyhawk, which he's not. It's just a student getting in more hours.

If Jeff can pull of the Hoffman hire, that would be huge for his perception. Going out and stealing a successful coach from a better program is exactly what we need.

I think Manson mentioned that he is going mostly commercial so tracking plane movements really isn't going to help much.

I am surprised we haven't heard an opinion from SumItUp about Sutton since he is so close to what he has done over there. I remember covering games when he was a player for his dad. Man, I am getting seriously old. I wonder what role the Greens would play in this type of deal.
