Yes I have seen Jesse play a year ago. You'll notice I've been bringing him up for some time now.

Will their be turnover? Obviously. But considering our senior class it was going to be an issue anyway.

You guys have to admit today hasn't been the typical boring Tuesday.

I was thinking, that with the 500 LOI's we have in the filing drawer for next year, that he wouldn't get one.

I would hope so with 9 incomers.

I'm very excited about some of the guys coming in, but when does it reach a point where we have too much coming in?

And I don't see how Kyle can get a scholly with 9 incomers, 4 returners, a possible loss of scholly, how does he get a scholly? My math must be bad

OK...somebody will have to correct me if I am wrong, but isn't there a NCAA reg out there that limits the amount of "new" scholarships you can offer in a give year? I think is is a percentage of the total number of allowed scholies.

If so...this would hinder these plans a little.

I will confess to not knowing the exact numbers, but I'm sure our coaches do.

I do know the signing limit rules have been relaxed from what they used to be. A couple of high profile programs got caught in the lurch with a combination of graduation and players turning pro unexpectedly, and the very restrictive limits they had then didn't allow them to replenish their talent quickly through recruiting. The result was down years, and the NCAA, in a rare moment of clarity, changed the rules to prevent a reoccurance.

I am pretty sure if a player is getting academic money, it still counts against one of the 13 allowable schollies. Therefore you have 14 kids "counting"
We are only allowed 13...unless we lose on due to past "issues"

Academic money only counts if he's getting ANYTHING from athletics.

I still struggle with that concept. What prevents a school from giving 10 kids "academic" money and then still giving away the 13 scholarships?

Schools normally can't get that many kids with the grades

Also

Most schools can't get that many players who would be willing to play basketball with 20+ teammates

Better?

It does not take grades to do it...it just takes a school that is willing to give kids academic money when they really do not qualify.

And the 20 kids was an exaggeration.... what about the school that has their 13 scholarships full and then they find a stud that for some reason now wants to go to said school...and amazingly they find a full academic scholarship for them?
I just think the NCAA would not allow for such possible shadiness...but then again...all coaches work with the highest of moral standards.

I truly believe that a walk on must pay their own way

You can't necessarily change all your athletes who are good students over to academic scholarships to free up athletic schollys (no matter how good their grades are). You have to be able to show that non-athletes with similar academic qualifications are getting similar opportunities. The percentage of those receiving academic scholarships who are athletes needs to be reasonably consistent with the ratio of athletes to non-athletes in the student body. If all of these criteria are met, I don't think a player on academic scholarship would count against the NCAA limit.

Ok guys, I am here to set the record straight in terms of the roster:

Returners
BJ Jenkins
Jeremy Anderson
Kyle Ohman
Tyler Baker
Johnny Stephene
Anthony Smith

Recruits
Jesse Sanders
Seth Curry
Brolin Floyd
Sammy Jackson
Austin Smith
Carter McMasters

Paul Guede (Signed with Portland St yesterday)
Julian Boyd (didn't offer, signed with Long Island)
Mike Lewis (didn't get into Liberty, NLI is void)
Kevin Smith (signed with Wake Forest for football)

Players not getting renewed
Armon Jones
Nathan Campbell
Justin Holland (coming back to finish up degree next year)

Liberty does in fact lose a scholarship next season due to the NCAA Index that measures players coming and going. The churn over for Liberty was too large over the past few years.

I'm sad to see J-Holland leave. I thought he was a good defensive player at times.

Well you have to have a minimum score on the SAT/ACT and a minimum GPA and he must have fallen short in one of those areas. He was only 5-7 but I know Ritchie liked him a lot. However he likes Sanders a ton as well.
