I agree with the backdrop having an impact on the shooting. I can think of several times when ACC, SEC and NCAA Tournament games have been played in the Georgia Dome for example. I've heard plenty of coaches and commentators talk about how it takes players a while to adjust to shooting there b/c since it's really a football arena and it's bigger that the background is just so much deeper than they're used to and it just takes long. Sure, Liberty should have blown Campbell out of the gym, but the background probably did have something to do with the way they played.

Don't make too much of shooting 3's w/ a backdrop. Shooting is more touch than anything else. I think Exam week and a road game in general are more likely the problem--lacked a little focus.

I disagree completely. There's a reason it takes time for people to adjust from shooting in say The Vines Center to Rupp Arena. What you're shooting up against and your surroundings have a ton to do with how you shoot.

I know for a fact that the backdrop affects player's shooting. Not to bring up my old glory days, but my senior year in high school we pllayed at this gym where one basket faced into a cafeteria with tons of people coming, going, eating, socializing, etc. In the first half, my team faced the opposite end, where that basket just faced a wall, I shot 8-8 from the free throw line in the first half, and in the 2nd half, while facing the cafeteria, I was 1-6.

This game was in a tough spot, being right after finals. Coach now has several games to get them ready for the conference run.

It's been a while since I played, but I still think people make too much of things like that. I speak as one who has made 17 three pointers in a row. I'm just saying I know something about shooting.

That was a pretty embarrasing loss to Campbell the other night considering the way we have been playing before the exams but the time off really hurt the team's chemistry. We should clobber those guys at our place just like we did to Longwood and Presby and prove that it was just a fluke. Playing on the road is tough even against teams as bad as Campbell with there crappy facilities and poor background and everything to throw off LU's shooting.

Concerning Checkmates comment about the bad team road loss and what he said. When I saw it I knew exactly what it meant but he should have elaborated on it a bit. It was a very vague comment.

Agreed Old Flame. I don't know how we can make a judgement about bad shooting when we shot 47% from the field. That is about what we shoot as a team for the year. Shooting wasn't the problem per se. All that said, if Ace doesn't get called for traveling and puts the ball in the hole like he did against ECU we would be calling this a good road win. It is like App St over Michigan to me. Michigan makes the field goal at the end and they are a top 5 team: It gets blocked and now they are bums that don't belong in the top 25. It is a lot about perception.

Speaking of which, I can't believe anyone doesn't believe that the backdrop can make a difference in shooting. I guess it wouldn't make a difference if you shot with your eyes closed but depth perception is a real thing. A brain can be tricked (see Optical Illusions) into thinking something is farther away than it is or closer than it appears (like the mirrors I guess). But like anything else, you can adjust to it. That is why you warm up or have shooting practice in the gym that you will play in that day. To get a feel for the shooting environment.
