Ok, let me jump in here. Where do I begin. Kyle Ohman is on the team because Dunton believed in him. He always had complimentary things to say about him when I was in practice. The problem was that once Brew got in the mix, there was no room to play him. He played in the 10 games prior to Brew's emergence but I guess no one remembers that. He didn't play 20 min per game or any thing but he did get significant time. Truth is, if Brew and LB and Damien Hubbard were still here, you guys would still not really know who Kyle Ohman is. He is a solid player and a terrific shooter though. I like him a lot. As far as a scholarship, that is on a case by case basis when you walk on. I know from experience. My 1st semester I didn't have a scholly then I got a full ride from second semester on but only because 2 people left school over the holiday...Justin Holland isn't going anywhere. He is a Jr so why wouldn't you just let him finish to keep you graduation index up? I think RD helped a couple of players develop as LUConn said. Leo however got better because he was healthy. He was hurt his entire Jr year. Also not having Gabe Martin out there helped Leo too. They were similar players....Rell Porter did dominate on his athletic ability in high school. A knee injury his senior year took away a lot of his bounce according to coach Leary. As far as attendance, I for one can't wait to see more people in the seats. The Vines can be electric even when it is half full.

Thanks for jumping in, SCAR. (I say, another fantastic post)

I've got to know more about watching the games ... I have Direct TV. Are the games there, and are you, Scar, on the T.V. stations?

Stupid questions (maybe) but I'd like to have info about how to best stay with the season.

Haven't seen Ohman play in person this year but I'd be willing to be he's better than Hubbard ever was.

Hubbard actually looked very good (offensively) in practice, I thought, and then in games somehow became reluctant.

Clearly Kyle's PT this year has benefited from the departure of the 3 players SCAR mentioned as well as the inavailability of Jeremy Anderson due to injury. He did play some last year before Brew became eligible, but most of his minutes came in the 3 home blowouts against lower level competition. If he stays healthy and contributes like he has been, I sure hope he gets a schollie, even if it means taking one away from someone else.

Sometimes a player who is not D1 caliber gets offered a scholarship because of a poor evaluation by the recruiting coach. IMHO that player has 2 choices; work his butt off and get better or expect to be replaced. When you are going to school free and playing ball on a D1 scholarship, you need to perform like a D1 player. if you're just not good enough...... that's why there is D2, NAIA and D3.

If you have Direct TV I believe the MASN network is somewhere around the 620's. Turn to it and see if it comes in. If not then you would have to order a sports package upgrade to get it. It is worth the purchase though. I plan on being very very entertaining this year

It would be nice if RMc wins a few D1 games before we name the court after him. I for one am still concerned that we didn't add one quality player from the time he was hired. Greg Marshall signed 5.

Im not ready to anoint him as LU's savior...but Im not gonna call him a bum because he didn't bring in some uber blue chip instant superstar class. Anderson is injured, Stephene is needing to hit the books and Ozren hasn't hit the floor yet. Not to mention I wouldn't want to be compared to CPT Purple

i was thinking the same thing. hubbard never impressed me much. I'll be interested to see Ohman play against a higher level of competition and see if he keeps it up

Ohman's game is this...

if he's open, he shoots.

if he shoots, he usually scores.

And when he doesnt have the ball, he works to get it.

I think that would work about almost anyone.

McKay didnt have a whole lot of time and normally(I think) a coach who moves up will retain all of his recruits. Also I dont see why the people he targeted would travel cross country to follow a coach who was let go.

With that said look at the recruiting class for next year. There should be one quality player in the 7 guys.

Mr. negativity strikes again. You don't know squat about the 5 players Marshall signed and neither do I, but in looking at the Shocker's box scores so far this year they don't seem to be making much of an impact. Orupke hasn't played, so I suspect they are redshirting him. Almost all "quality" High school players sign in the fall period now, so the only way a new coach can bring in "impact" players is Jucos, transfers or international players. RMc wants to build a program with kids who will be here for 4 years.

yes but against competition better than coker, the open shots aren't there and the D is typically better able to deny him the ball and the opportunities to score. also as the season progresses the scouting reports on Liberty and kyle will get better and the teams will be able to know how to contain him better. Liberty will just have to adapt and find other ways to get him good looks as the season progresses. he got many wide open shots against coker, and he wont be getting that many against better competition. this isnt a knock on liberty or kyle because the kid can clearly play, more of a knock on coker.

Ozren isn't getting on the court--and don't plan on him doing so, either.

He was a wasted schollie. They signed him without ever seeing him play live, all they had was video. He's gone after this year.

Do you know that for a fact? Seems like a pretty dumb thing to do given our current problem with projected graduation rates.

I believe it to be true--comes from a good source. However, not a fact.

I have to think the situation is similar for Nathan. It makes no sense that he would have not played at all thus far if he fits into our future plans. He has already spent a year in prep school, so a voluntary redshirt doesn't make a lot of sense. I think RMc is doing both of these players a favor by holding them out and allowing them to keep their eligibility to use elsewhere in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if one or both transferred out after the first semester.

that's normally what happens when you redshirt a player in bball and why it isn't done all that often. Well, not like in football anyway.
