Tough decision because it's not only coaches but families involved too.

Don't like making these types of decisions but it has to happen.

Met with Coach at the beginning of the season about issues and got those taken care of at the time.

Thought we should be further along after 5 years. 11 D1 wins but only one of those had a winning record.

Nothing to do with VMI game. Decision made 2 weeks ago.

Bigger than just getting to the NCAA. Only one winning season in 5 years.

"I'd look like an idiot making the call, but it would've been the same call" (regarding NCAA tournament birth and still letting Dunton go)

"I made the recommendation to him (Dr. Falwell)" - regarding who has control. Dr. Falwell could've went over his head but he didn't.

No set time table on hiring a new coach. Hopefully within 3-4 we'll have a coach, but we can't know that for sure.

"I will promise each and everyone of you this, we'll do this just like Kentucky would..."

They had to cut him off to go to commercial.

Very good interview. Jeff is a man with a mission....
...definitely not dancing around things like Borek was 5 years ago.

Comments do not bode well for Gillen...
...wants someone who is on their way to the top, not someone who has been at the top and on his way down who wants to get back to the top.

sounds like a good interview. I hope they put the podcast on the website of 105.9 I guess no more insight on the interview into the Women's hoops thing.

"We're going to make this program, all of our sports, we don't want to be mediocre in anything...It will be done in a first-class way."

He dropped another Kentucky reference.

Liberty is like selling a house with a pool: some people don't want a house with a swimming pool because of certain reasons, but there are also people out there that are looking specifically for a house with a pool.

"I want someone that will accept that challenge (the religious things, Liberty Way, etc) and run with it. I'm not looking for a Sunday school teacher or a preacher. I'm looking for someone who will coach basketball and go to church on Sunday."

"I'd rather hire a guy that's working to get to the top rather than someone who has been to the top and fallen off and trying to get back to the top."

"Coach Dunton has done a lot of good things."

"I'd love to hire someone who's been a head coach at a D2 or smaller school but has had the experience at the Division 1 level."

"It's our turn to be the Winthrop of this conference."

The "house with a pool" reference has got to be the best analogy I've heard for LU.

I don't quite agree with him 100% about preferring a coach who is working his way up over a coach that was at the top, fell, and is trying to get back. However, I can understand where he's coming from.

Maybe get that coach from Barton... ha. I have a friend who goes there, plays softball. Maybe we could get in touch with him.

The podcast will be up on www.sportslineradio.com around 8:15 back to work... Jeff was very good to us tonight and giving us as much time as we wanted. Another reason why he is a great AD.

Well at least we can say ONE THING and all agree: This current search has lasted much longer than that last one. At what point does the fan base get feisty with this type of indecision!!! :D

That would be quite the fundraiser for our program...
...but we only have 16 chairs in the lab. Perhaps I need to video the talk and put it on Youtube...

Sorry...
...now about that coaching search? Time to go to the ACC web sites and see if there are any assistants with a good Christian leaning tidbit. If this site is going to hit the big time, we must fill it with coaching rumors...
...I know one that JF would eat up...Monte Towe of NC State. I know JF thinks very highly of him, from back at Towe's days as the PG on the championship team, and from his tenure as top asst at UNCA, but knowing Monte like I do, he might not fit the LU mold. He would certainly energize the students, though.

Liberty Basketball in a nutshell:
1. Wait till our new recruits get on campus
2. Wait till our new recruits get elibible
3. Wait till this team and coaching staff gels.
4. Wait till this team learns my ENTIRE playbook
5. Wait until the Conference schedule, that is what really matters.
6. Wait till the BSC tournament starts, that is how we can get into the tournament.
7. Wait till we get rid of all the bad eggs.
8. Wait until we get a new supervisor of officals that is not biased against us.
9. Wait till our guys get into the weight room with (insert strenght coach here) and build thier physiques to compete.
10. Wait till they get those chairs out of the tunnel
10a. Wait tilll we get a BLIMP
11. See #1

Dr Haize? He is a doctor like Dr. Pepper, Dr Marcus Welby, Dr J or Dr Scholls is a doctor :P 8) or Doc from the 7 dwarfs, Doc Rivers, Dr Octopus (although maybe Spidey can confirm that he was a real doctor), Dr Who etc.

Good find there. You never know, but Barber might want to dip into the pool at South Carolina, maybe pull an assistant out of there if he could find a Christian one. Possibly Duckett. Who knows.

Ok, I'm done with the coaching thing. I'll get back to that in another week, let the Dunton thing settle. Don't feel right talking about his replacement already.

How can you forget Dr. Dre and Doctor Dre (one being of NWA/Chronic fame, the other being the co-host of Yo! MTV Raps w/ Ed Lover), Doc Martens, and Dr. Feelgood (for the fans of Motley Crue that are on here)...

Anyway, on to the original topic...good luck to RD, wherever the coaching world takes him, and good luck to LU in their search for the next coach. It'll be interesting to see what happens up there in VA with two new coaches entering the league at LU and RU.
