That doesn't make it acceptable, especially since they are one of the more visable faces of our school, but I'm not nieve enough to think that our squad is going to be filled with Sunday school teachers.
The basketball team is different because they were specifically recruited to come to the university, to act, in essence, as ambassadors to the school. And, they are getting paid (through scholarships) to attend Liberty. Others had to shell out tuition money that amounts to twice as much as any other college in our classification (Tier 4, Master's, Southern).
Furthermore, how is the basketball team different? Because their (spiritual) failings, like most other athletes, tend to get swept under the rug whereas a comparable transgression from someone from the general student body causes Heaven to fall. "Got your girl pregnant? Ehh, don't worry about it, Louvon. Just keep up that 3.2 points per game production and you'll have a home here at LU."
I'm not saying that they all need to be Sunday school teachers, but they should have to exhibit a higher standard than the rest of the student body BECAUSE they are basketball players. You practically dismiss the notion that they are the visible faces of our school, whereas I think that is the crux behind this discussion.
