Everyone else relies on a pick to get an open look. I was at the Radford game and the problem was turnovers and missing shots close to the basket not necessarily the defense. We also can't seem to inbound the ball with consistency. We are very close to 5 second rule every time we inbound under our own basket. Its the little/fundamentals things that the team needs to work on if they are going to make another run at the tournament.
You say these like they are bad things. I would wager that if our PG had that same mentality you would see the offensive production climb higher. You would see the team chemistry improve and you would see us being able to pull out these close games and avoid collapses like we have a tendency to do.

VMI finished 2nd in the North last season. And it took Reggie Williams 2 years after VMI to make the NBA. Schools like Liberty & Winthrop shouldn't be compared to VMI any sport. VMI can never recruit enough depth to be successful every year.

It's a worthy accomplishment at VMI but what has he won?
If Paul Westhead's philosophy was so great why didn't he get a better job? Although he did do well with it in the WNBA. But even then he tightened up the defensive end.
PH -- you of all people who may have some coaching background should know that Arkansas were uptempo , but also had the most talent in that 2 year time frame. Do not ever forget talent wins... VMI hasn't won a championship & probably won't but they are at a recruiting DISADVANTAGE,,, you should know pal... But playing fast has won Baucom more games than any coach in the history of VMI Basketball. Your not comparing to 'like schools to one another'. And John Bielien is more known for his offense than defense. Meyer is just along for the ride, he didn't know any offense until he got hooked up as assistant with GM & then Butler.... Meyer is a organizational coach, nuts & bolts guys.

Tempo v Defense. The discussion was on defense but all you bring up is tempo. You said it was brainwashed to believe that defense wins games or Championships. I was giving you facts to back up my position. You then start bringing up a host of different things from talent, to tempo, to 'like schools' non of which has to do with the original discussion.
Now if you want to discuss Tempo and whether you can be more successful Up Tempo, Down Tempo or Normal Tempo that's fine. If you wanna discuss my preference that's fine. But those are separate than arguing that its a fallacy that Defense Wins Games.
BTW. Syracuse won today only scoring 57 pts. Their shots weren't falling but they were able to hold UNC to 45.

If you check every Big South team box score yesterday... The teams that won all shot higher percentages than the teams that lost. Like I said it comes down to making shots or defensive rebounding. 'Defense wins championships' is a Lombardi term used in football. And non offensive minded basketball coaches try to tell their kids that all the time.
Your boy Dale Gibson won a National Title with Karl Hess and Gibson said "Hess was my shooter/scorer but on defense I tried to hide him"

Looking at the standings five other teams had a better record than VMI last year! How many titles did Peele win?

Peele & Dunton both lost their last game as Head Coaches to..........VMI.

(Meyer)
Jeff Meyer. Rules are rules

So they didn't go undefeated. If you go to the effort of trying to hide a player on defense it sorta proves that defense is important. If defense wasn't important than why hide him? :dontgetit
