I noticed that too Chris. I had always thought the clock started when the ball hit the rim, but I just assumed I was mistaken when I saw that. I can't imagine that Warren would do that unless his coach had told him to. If the clock in fact should have started, and Warren's shot is a few inches longer and goes in, we have a major controversy.

SCAR, you show a lot of promise.

NCAA 5.9.3 = When a free throw is not successful and the ball is to remain live, the game clock shall be started when the ball is legally touched by or touches a player on the playing court.

Thanks Haize. I have you to keep me straight.

I did come up with a scenario/strategy question: A team needs to miss a FT to try to get an offensive rebound and a game tying FG. Is it reasonable to think that the defensive team could literally just step in the lane too soon and commit a lane violation? That way if the FT was missed the ref would have to blow the play dead and reward another FT. I don't know if this strategy has ever been deployed or even thought about but in theory it works.

Yes, a team could, but why would you? If the team does is more then once or twice you would be approaching the "travesty of a game" clause and THEN you would have a "T" followed by the POI FT. And where would THAT get you.
Wasn't it Paula Abdul who sang "Two steps forward, two steps back, we come together because opposites attract"?

The only positive thing that could come from that scenario would be if they either accidentally made the shot or totally missed the rim the second time. Of course that could just as well happen the first time, but it wouldn't count because you were in the lane.

so now say that the guy is told to do it. what if the Center from the shooting teams sees it and decides to also step in early therefore causing a double violation which results in a jump ball.

4 were for taunting on players. 1 was on the coach. I only had 3 (2 players, 1 coach). The rest of the crew had 1 each.

That award has traditionally gone to a coach whose team substantially exceeded expectations. I don't know as that is how it should be, but it usually is, in which case Layer should be a shoo-in if we don't totally collapse down the stretch. CCU has dominated, and Ellis appears to have done a good job handling the Holmes situation, but they were expected to finish where they are.

And I guess no one could criticize CCU picking it up, but they were among the "expected" & LU was picked no where near where they are now. Dale has shown that this is no fluke, because they have been consistent game in & game out (although I have read that some Flame Fans have been frustrated by what they have seen as inconsistency) but when you look at the results, & how they have beaten almost everybody, & fought the best "tooth & nail" - I call it consistency. Can we say that they have had a "bad" game all year? Probably not.

Anyway, Dale would be a great choice, and he would absolutely get my vote.

I could see Ellis getting it if they go 18-0, since even if you are picked to finish first, going undefeated in conference is a huge accomplishment. I believe he won it last year, and there is a tendency not to give 2 in a row when there is another worthy choice

Excellent points, in my estimation. Again, I cannot disagree with either the "negative"
(Ellis gets it) or the "positive" (Dale gets it). I just say that I would, without hesitiation,
give it to Dale. And I say that, trying to be honestly objective.

Coastal running the table gets Ellis the award again. If Coastal stumbles just one time, then it should beyond to Layer.

Where does Greenburg belong in this discussion?

Coastal will be more ripe for an upset in the tourney if they do run the table and still have the long win streak become a distraction. If they lose before the end of the season, that might wake them up to the fact they can be beat, then they become more focused come tourney time.
