This team will be fun to watch as others have already stated. I was very impressed by Brolin's shooting touch. What was he 3 of 4 from 3? Jesse never stops moving on the offensive side of the court- great hustle. Carter needs 20 pounds before he can be a threat in D1 ball. Austin was a solid performer down low, nothing outstanding, but solid.

i was thinking the same thing about Carter. In his pictures we had last year he looked quite a bit heavier, what happened

He's a freshman and he's only been in our strength and conditioning program a few months. But skills are certainly not in short supply with Carter. Have some patience for him to make the adjustments. What we saw tonight from Seth, Jesse & Brolin are not typical first games for freshmen. And I'll bet Austin starts playing a bigger factor as the season progresses.

Have to admit these freshman can play and they are going to excel right away. Should be a fun year. They need to get shorter shorts though - come on - most were like worm up pants. Jesse pulled at them all night. Curry's were long, but they were fine - copy him!

I don't have much new to add...but the game was a lot of fun...good to see a decent crowd...like the new seats...

this group of guys are going to be fun...of course with 7 freshmen frustration will be a normal emotion...but this program has a solid foundation now to build upon...should be a fun ride

Yeah, the Vines center looks so much better than even two weeks ago. The railing around the front really helps, and the new seats make it look so sweet

In limited action, McMasters impressed me on the defensive end: in 15 minutes of PT, he had 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. And when he rebounds, catches it with one hand and then slaps the ball with the other hand, and you can hear it all over the Vines.

Yeah he is definitely going to be a big man on defense. Just not a back to the basket threat on offense. We he did he threw up a McNugget!

Imagine a lineup consisting of Sanders, Curry, Floyd, Austin Smith, and Weaver for the next 4 years.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to have all of those guys in our program, but does "the next 4 years" include this year and next? If so, a lineup without Smitty and Kyle doesn't make much sense to me, and all indications are David Manaya will play a major role starting next year. Of those 5, I'd say Curry and Floyd are locks to be major contributors the whole 4 years. Sanders looks good, but it's quite possible that down the road we may be a better team with Seth at the point and someone else playing the 2, which would make Jesse a backup PG. If Baker ever makes it to the court, he will be ahead of Austin, and quite frankly, the much maligned Carter had a better game last night than Austin did as well. Add our 6'10" signee Vander Pol to the mix, and Austin is far from gauranteed to be a fixture on the court. As talented as Weaver is, he is going to have to fight for minutes (but he will be great for our team GPA, which is no small deal :D .

A great start. Maybe the most talent on a team at the same time. Up tempo. Plenty of hustle and enthusiasm. But LOTS of ill advised and unnecessary speed shots. VMI style doesn't win championships. The numbers of 3ptrs shows our opponents our glaring weekness. Loved the crisp precision passing they have. Surely more patience will result in more points. Sometimes they seemed selfless and sometimes they seemed selfish. Clearly this should be a great exciting season. The Men will have competion for more of my time this year. With all of our teams improving looks like I'l have to wait for June and July to catch up on my rest. A great feeling.

Did anybody notice there was a few different times of Austin and McMasters in the game at the same time? Despite Carter being taller, Smith was playing the 5 and Carter was roaming around the outside. Is that not what I had been crying for us to do for the last 2 years with Russ? When Smith becomes more of a threat that's gonna be so hard to defend.

Is Tyler going to play against Asheville? Or is he being held out for an extended period of time.

I heard it will be at least another week, which would put him out for UNCA.

Let's not get carried away with a win over Montreat. NAIA Lee University beat Montreat by 26. I like the freshmen but this is not jv basketball. We have some glaring major weaknesses. If we get to the top half of the league it will have been a stretch.

I saw some huge weaknesses, but come on, a stretch to get into the top half of the league? Most of the BSC teams are relying on youth this year and those teams returning a lot aren't that good.

The LU Flames dressed in their blue & red gear beat Montreat by 26? Stinkin' copycats.

I'm not seeing the same thing you guys in Carter!! He looked bad to me. I was playing against a team that's tallest player was 6'7". He reminds me of our boy "RUSSELL MONROE". He should have red-shirted this year and put some meat on those bones.

McMasters is NOTHING like Russell Monroe. I hope that comparison will never be made again. Carter runs the floor, rebounds, blocks shots, and can shoot the 3. Carter was recruited by Tennssee and several other ACC and SEC schools. Big Russ was a D3 player at best. No comparison.

Monroe was recruited by Michigan too. Getting a letter doesn't mean they made you an offer. Hey, it's my opinion - and I hope I'm wrong. I just think he is too skinny to play at this level and we don't need another 3 point shooter. Did you see his hook shot last night? To even get out there further - I like Monroe More - there I said it. I saw more potential in Monroe - he just lacked confidence in himself.

He looked out of place, lost in the post against smaller players and I've seen better footwork by Warren Sapp on "So you think you can dance".

Proto, I'll give you that the hook shot was ugly, and I hope coach tells him never to try that again in a game. And Big Russ had a decent freshman year with a few nice jumpers from 10 feet out, but it seemed like Russ got worse as the years went on, and I can only see Carter getting better once he gains some more weight and is a little better conditioned.

But like everyone is saying, it's only been ONE game--and that was against an NAIA cupcake. We'll know much more after the Asheville game come Tuesday.

Carter had offers from some SEC and ACC schools. Offers. There are string reasons why that is the case and we will see the fruits of that as he adjusts to our style of play.

I know he can improve, but I just don't see him being an impact player this year. And I can't imagine he hasn't tried to put on weight before.
