If roundball is your blood, this is the place to discuss the Flames as they move into the Ritchie McKay era for the 2nd time.

#532605 Just announced we have offered JC Carrington, a 6'1" PG from Charlotte, who is 2018 commit Blake Preston's teammate at Charlotte Christian. Looks like our staff have developed quite a relationship with the people down there. JC averaged 9 points and 7 assists a game as a Soph.

Since the thread is now started, ASOR reported several months ago that we offered 6'3" SG Caleb Mills from Ashville, NC' Verbal Commits does not show that offer as yet. Winthrop and Lipscomb have also offered him.

Zac is having a really good Summer playing for Team Loaded VA. Once again Cider, we are going head to head with Marshall.

This year we will have 5 scholarship players in that size range who are either SG or SF. One is a Senior. I would be surprised if all 4 of the others are still around when the 2019 class arrives, and Homesley would be a Senior. When you consider the fact that most if not all of these guys can play either position, I really don'think that is too many.

In another roster note, walk-on Brody Hicks, who was on the scout team last year, has been added. It will be interesting to see how the pecking order for minutes shakes out between Brody and Jay Barber. They are similar players, and if anything I think Hicks may be more athletic.

#534206 And Hicks outweighs Barber by 25 pounds, which may make a difference at the next level.

#538150 I guess I can start trying to keep track of MBB too. What are the recruiting time tables for MBB? Signing day, primary recruiting season and how does it different from football? How is it similar? Broadening my horizons.

Early signing period is November 8-15. We expect McGhee and Preston to sign that week, probably on the 8th. Spring signing period is April 11 to May 16. Unless we have some more attrition, we won't have a scholarship available to sign anyone then. The schedule for open and closed recruiting periods is way too complicated for me to try to keep up with.

#538157 I'm not aware of any 2018 kid sthat we are still pursuing. But we clearly are looking for a particular type of player to fill that 2019 slot.

We actually are looking at 3 scholarships open for 2019. Hopefully one will go to the PG, JC Carrington. As it stands now the other 2 would be used to land a couple of those 2/3 guys who have some length and athleticism to play the Pack Line, but can also hit the 3.

Did you see the tweet from Layla Davis? Did he get a football and basketball offer from LU?

That should say Lala; autocorrect got me again lol. Although what I said is based on a tweet that is posted on his page.

I saw it too. It was a 50/50 jersey. MBB and Football.

#550059 Joe Pierre's trip to Texas has resulted in us offering 2 PGs for the class of 2019:

6'2" Pierce Hellums from Tomball, TX
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/pierce-hellums

6'1" Isaac McBride from Little Rock, AK
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/issac-mcbride

I'm thinking with Marten Maide committed, we have likely withdrawn the offers to most if not all of the other SGs we were looking at for that year. We will definately need a PG with Cabbel gone and Georgie a Senior.
By olldflame
#550068 McBride's HS team at Baptist Prep has won 3 straight state championships.
This year he made a 4 point play with less than a second left to win it by a point.

Some guy named Marcus White is one of their assistant coaches. Play Basketball  8)

#550071 Lots of good stuff here.
Baptist Prep HC Brian Ross has left to accept the HC job at Little Rock Central. No idea whether Marcus would be in line for the job or not.
By olldflame
#550118 After further research Study , not as interesting as I thought. :boring The guy named Marcus White who is an assistant coach at Baptist Prep is not the same guy named Marcus White who played basketball for Liberty back in the 90s.

#550120 A kid from Tomball! I don't remember him but I am sure I will see him play his season as my son't team plays Concordia Lutheran in summer ball and multiple times in the regular season. This is the town that has produced Jimmy Butler and Justin Jackson in recent years.

By olldflame
#550340 PG JC Tharrington, Blake Preston's teammate at Charlotte Christian who we had offered early and then backed off of, has committed to App State.
By olldflame
#550389 Coach McKay's son Gabriel, who will be a Senior at LCA this year, has announced he will be joining the recruiting class of 2019 as a walk-on.

https://twitter.com/gabriel_mckay/statu ... 2751079424

I don't think he was even a starter as a JR last year, so we're not talking about an impact player, but I think it's pretty cool.

Hoping we will hear soon that there will be another father/son-coach/player combination starting next year. 8)

They certainly are the most entertaining
By oldflame
#551976 That would almost certainly be Kyle Rode, a SF from Lexington.
http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/kyle-rode
While his VC profile shows 9 offers, they don´t always know about all of them.
This tweet from his HS coach confirms the number from ballcoach´s source. ( A saying about blind squirrels and acorns comes to mind)

The Rock pulled it off pretty well too.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is one of the funniest shows on t.v.

#552014 A few factoids about Kyle Rode. He is from Lexington, KY, but plays AAU ball for Indiana Elite. They are a top 10 program nationally, and he is their leading scorer. His HS team, Lexington Christian Academy (yes, they go by LCA) won a state championship last year. His 2 most recent offers are from Winthrop and W&M. Based on his own tweets and others commenting on him, he looks to be a perfect fit with the school and team culture.

Also, according to this report, he is now 6´7¨ and well over 200, which would enable him to play the PF in Ritchie´s system.

He may or may not be the ¨guru¨ the old ballcoach makes him out to be, but you can´t deny he has ¨access¨. Definately an insider.
