If roundball is your blood, this is the place to discuss the Flames as they move into the Ritchie McKay era for the 2nd time.

#519367 Jon Rothstein reported today that Liberty is part of the 2017 Paradise Jam field that includes Wake Forest, Colorado, Houston, Drexel, Drake and Mercer. Nice to see us getting in to a bigger tournament that will bring some more exposure to the program.

#519884 Very good tourney. We went down there in 2014 and upset Clemson in the opener when they did their Chris Webber imitation in crunch time. CBSN covered it then.

#536320 Weird... first football started the season against the former team of our AD, and now we're playing a team who currently has our former head coach as their assistant.

Also, that Howard game. The one team that got more upset coverage than us over the weekend of the Baylor win.

#536332 Before gardner left i would have thought 22 to 23 wins. Need to see how all the new pieces fit as well as the health of homesley. This team is a veteran laden squad compared to the last team with guys like kemrite and cabill with multiple years experience. However, overall were a lot different than we thought we might be back in april.

I don't think we are at that level to get games with those teams. Would these teams want to play us from the Big South? Not likely at this time. Although as I said before, I hope basketball will be on McCaw's 'to do list' and he stays in the loop with McKay and Green.

I don't understand this statement. What needs to be done? Are you expecting him to not be in the loop with what his Basketball Coaches are doing ? (I refrained from adding to that :? ).
I just don't understand the comment

I think he meant that he wants IM to by into McKay and Green.

#537104 But if 'staying in the loop' means buying into McKay and Green why is there a 'to do' list. Seems like it would already be done?

LU is scheduled to play in the US Virgin Islands, not Puerto Rico. Georgie is from Puerto Rico.

Correct on the location, but JK37 raises a legit point in that St. Thomas has actually taken near direct hits from not 1 but 2 major hurricanes in the last couple of weeks, both Irma and Maria. Still getting rained on by Maria here, but for the second straight time we were spared anything damaging or life threatening.

Sending LU Send with the basketball team could be a great opportunity. You help the people start rebuilding and give them something fun to take their mind off the wake of the hurricanes. Use basketball as a ministry in a way. And have real boots on the ground doing work.

#537138 Great idea 20something. Back to Puerto Rico and Georgie's family, based on his twitter, he has had no word from them. Not terribly surprising seeing as the entire power grid is down........... 100%! Tough to communicate under those circumstances. The entire country needs prayer, and tangible help. Big brother USA needs to step up big time. The country had a ton of problems BEFORE this happened. Puerto Rico is now Puerto Pobre.

#537141 Thing is, even if we could mobilize power trucks and other vehicles to help with the rebuilding process here in the USA, we would probably need large ships and C-130s to be able to get those resources onto the island

Line of the week. Glad to hear you fared well, Olldflame.

This is not the first time that hurricanes have impacted Caribbean hoops tournaments. If the venues are significantly damagaed, I would suspect that the games are moved to a home site of one of the major teams in the tourney: Colorado, Houston or Wake Forest. UH is actually using nearby Texas Southern's arena this season while the new Fertitta Center is being completed after they tore down historic Hofheinz Pavilion. So that would narrow it down to Colorado or Wake Forest. Since five of the eight schools in the mens bracket are from the East Coast, that would indicate that the tourney would likely be moved to Winston-Salem. Of course, the tourney website has not been updated in months so we have no idea where things stand.

Yeah we don't have any of those laying around or a military trained for humanitarian missions. Oh wait a minute we do and I guarantee you it will be utilized.

We should start coming up with new names for it. You know LU is going to bid on it

#537230 So if conference USA membership was worth 24 million to LU what is this tournament worth? 12 million? Or maybe just throw the full 24 million at them. That way if they don't take it Jerry can add more people to his list of intolerance.

Hold a Tournament and make Region 2000 pay for it!
But honestly, why not? Give the proceeds back to the Island. More talk about LU at FBS. Throw a couple million at it see what happens

Are we about to go all"Hearts and Minds" on PR? I LOVE IT!!! Imagine a Christian school known for doing Christian things! There was a charity basketball tournament at the beginning of August that was constantly on ESPN.

Did the tournament already have a television deal? If not, maybe Fox Sports or NBC Sports wants to dedicate some assets to a Basketball Gives Back tourney.

All these things have some TV deals so I'm sure it was going to be covered by someone Then when all the cut ins back from commercial of aid packages being off loaded from LU Aviation planes or Samaritans Purse? Well worth the money

I was really surprised that Liberty's population was fairly representative of the us population. If anything the Asian population was disproportionately high, but that's common on most campuses.

Canadians on the other hand are EVERYWHERE.
