While he didn´t play much at Wake or Bradley, so you can´t say he is experienced, he does bring some maturity to the PG position til Dawson is eligible. Having a grad student who was valedictorian of his HS class won´t hurt the team academic profile either. This does show that our staff has their hat in the ring of the transfer circus, so maybe a big man will follow.

And lets be honest, Wake Forest and Bradley are schools that play at a higher level than the Big South. A bench player in the ACC/MVC could be a likely started at most BSC schools.

Theo Johnson is actually a valid comparison. He sat the bench for a team that is a perpetual contender in the Southern Conference, which these days is really not that big a jump up from the BSC, and probably a notch or 2 below the MVC where Bradley plays. Theo was our best player by the end of last year and no doubt will be a go to guy this year. James Johnson was obviously way overrated out of HS and never should have been at high level programs like UVA or SD State. Bottom line is in looking at transfers your staff needs to make their own evaluation of a player´s skills and how they fit in the system as opposed to whether they were able to earn PT somewhere else.

I don´t know that too much should be read into it, but I just noticed that of the 7 Layer recruits on the current roster, 6 are from West of the Mississippi, with the only exception being Evan Maxwell from PA. Of the 5 new scholarship players, 4 are from East of the Mississippi, with Lovell Cabbel from TX being the exception there. And of course, we will actually have a player who played HS basketball in VA, even though he is really from Columbia (the country in South America, not the city in South Carolina) and has only been in the US for a year. 2 from NC as well. There will definately be more of a local/regional feel to the team.

It´s not just 1 injury away. The fact is, while Maxwell is a load and has talent, unless Henry works wonders with the kid, he will only play so much anyway. He has signifant stamina issues. I´m thinking Ritchie looked at who was available at this late stage and decided it was better to save the scholarship and go small next year. Keep in mind in 08-09 he went on the road and beat UVA and gave Clemson a scare with noone over 6´5 playing significant minutes. It wasn´t til later in the season that Austen Smith got much PT. Yeah, I know, Smitty and Kyle aren´t walking through that door, but I have a feeling RMK thinks the guys he has can do the job.

Defensive Player of the year in the ACC was a big man. If Ritchie is planning on sticking with the Bennet Philosophy , we need a rim protector.
