It's a win and look who is back

It sounded by Lang's Tweets that was the case. I'm not surprised that happened but I doubt any team (there are only 2 left I think) will do that again. We have lost the element of surprise. I'm glad the kids played hard and took advantage of the opportunity Radford gave them.

Makes no sense that Radford wouldn't take the game seriously, but that appeared to be the case. They had a ton to play for, and the game at RU, though lopsided, was only lopsided thanks to a two-minute blitz early in the second half. I think they thought it was over after Javonte's sick dunk. Credit LU for showing a little resolve to get back into it. Joe Retic may not be close to 100 percent yet, but he adds an intangible that was missing this season. Not predicting any sort of run next week by any means. Let's see if they can actually win two straight first. The last time they won, they got worked by 40 the next time out. Adds a little curiosity to Saturday's game, at least.

In other news around the league a lot of eggs were laid it seems, Winthrop, Coastal, and RU.

speaking of RU --- where is the RVAPARKS guy? this is the time of year where a Mike Jones RU team starts to flounder.
I thought RVAPARKS was Longwood???
He is a Longwood guy, but he is also from Richmon and thinks VCU/Shaka and all his past assistants invented basketball... in another thread he and I got into over how good Mike Jones is as a coach. Although he(Jones) has won some games, and rebuilt RU up, his Big South tournament success is none existent, in fact 0 tournament wins I think(Lang correct me) He did make the CBI tournament and upset Orgeon St whose coach got fired the next day and is currently doing TV (OBama's brother in law)

One tourney win, I believe, barely scraping by 12 seed Presby last year in Conway. RU needs to show something next week, I agree. Another one and done would signal stalled progress.

Yea apparently liking Mike Rhoades = Shaka Smart fan. I don't get this constant conquest. I think Mike Rhoades is a great coach and I think he's showing that at Rice. I think Mike Jones did a good job rebuilding Radford over four years and think that's the model for lower mid-majors who are floundering or in shambles. Jamion Christian is an energy guy learning the ropes at Mt. St. Mary's. I don't like Will Wade, he got to ride Z Mason and others coattails and we haven't really been able to see what he can do yet.

Mike Jones isn't even a Shaka Smart protege, that's the dumbest part of this whole conquest he's on. Basically his whole philosophy stems from Dennis Felton, not the 32 year old he sat behind last year.

I'm not even a Shaka Smart fan, I think he went to the Final 4 with Anthony Grant's team and he's a subpar in game coach. He's a hell of a recruiter but that's about it. There is no one on his staff right now that I would even consider for a mid-major job.

Give it up man, I'm not even sure where you get these notions from.

A change needs to be made, even if we beat UNC-A and win a couple tournament games. LU basketball needs new life. More wins and more fans in the Vines Center. When a team is ranked 346th out of 351 schools, it's time for a change.

If there is one thing we can all agree on it is that Rooster is the furthest thing from a bandwagon fan there could possibly be.

Not according to Wikipedia. And we know they are never wrong. Study  :D

I am just pointing out he only shows up for wins now. If he doesn't want to defend his opinions that may or may not go against prevailing wisdom, that's fine too. But it would be more credible if he showed up after losses extolling any type of good that came from it.

Truly, I've been slammed at work and my positivity around here rarely yields a positive discussion. This team has never been as far away from good as many believe and with Gielo it's a totally different story.

You can find small positives in just about any situation. I think the reason are bewildered by your outlook is that the general body of work regarding this program under Dale Layer has been poor to mediocre the past three years. You can blame the players and their effort all you want, but it is Dale Layer and his staff's responsibility to recruit "his players" and to produce a successful product. We spend tons of money in athletics and the amount of money Dale Layer is getting per win in a season like this is absurd and mind-boggling. Rooster, you are absolutely in the right to be positive about this team, but even you have to admit that Layer has done little to warrant an extension or a raise.

Anybody see that tweet from Barber here in the last 20 minutes? I swear Barber has been drinking more than I have tonight. He quoted the great Master William. "Pressing you against the wall - I will take what I want, when I want. You are mine." The only thing I hope Barber takes is his list out and hires a basketball coach that gets this crap of a program going in the right direction.

I am still trying to figure out what the hell he is talking about but I see now that he was trying to send a message to his wife? I bet Jeff is 3 glasses of wine deep. The bottle is the only thing that has gotten him through this basketball season. I know you read this board Jeff, just let me know if you need any recommendations and I'll be happy to provide them. Only 1 more week til the boxes start moving to the left.
