Signing Day Primer

The early signing period for basketball begins today and runs through November 20th. The Flames have 5 verbal commits early from Braxton Bonds, Stavian Allen, AC Reid, Ezra Talbert, and Evan Maxwell. Liberty has at least 6 scholarships to fill as they look to replace seniors Davon Marshall, John Caleb Sanders, Casey Roberts, Antwan Burrus, JR Coronado, and Joel Vander Pol. In addition to the 6 seniors, there are 4 juniors on Liberty’s roster as well. To say the Flames have a lot to replace in the next year or two, is quite the understatement.

Just by numbers alone, this will be a very important class for the Flames. With the 5 verbals, Coach Layer and staff are off to a very good start. Don’t be alarmed if only 1 or 2 NLI’s roll in today, as this is a week-long signing period. Each recruit could be having special signing ceremonies at their school later in the week. Of course, we will be sure to update you when each recruit has signed.

Maxwell was the first to verbal, but his waiting a little longer to sign probably is something simple like a schedule conflict with someone they wanted to be there for the signing ¨ceremony¨.

Considering where the players had other offers from, is it safe to assume that Bonds was our highest recruit, since he turned down an offer from LSU?

The offer from LSU may have had something to do with how badly the Tigers wanted his teammate Jalen Lindsey, who has signed with Providence. Who knows, if Lindsey goes to LSU, maybe Braxton does too. Well, I guess pop probably knows.

Signing Week Recap

The early signing period concludes with the Flames signing all 5 of their verbal commits – Braxton Bonds, A.C. Reid, Ezra Talbert, Stavian Allen, and Evan Maxwell. Hopefully you caught our Signing Day Primer all week which we updated as each NLI was signed. Liberty still has at least one more scholarship available for the class of 2014. As we put a bow on the early signing period, here are a few thoughts regarding the recruiting class as a whole and each recruit individually:
