One good win doesn't merit a 3 year extension. How'd that work out last time it happened?

I'n not trying to put words in his mouth, but I think HMO means beating Winthrop in the finals of the big south tournament. If we win the Big South, it will all be a moot point.

And everyone will agree with that. If we win this year everything will be ok. If we don't, it won't.

When does Dunton's contract expire? If he does well (a winning record, and not just by one or two or three games) and wins the tournament, then I would give him a one-year extension and tell him to do it again and we'll talk longer. If he has a below .500 season (and still by some chance wins the tournament), I start looking for other resumes. Either way, he has to get us into the tournament.

Not a bad victory, but it far from locks any at large. They will have to play well the entire season to even be considered. The Big South is an anchor around the neck of everybody associated with it in regards to the selection committee.

Definitely true, they will still need to take at least one from Wisconsin, Maryland, or Texas A&M or go undefeated through the conference.

Sly---I was referring to this:
jcmanson wrote:They could get an at-large, but they will have to beat at least one of the "high"-majors they play on their schedule since they are playing so many. They can't put up a goosegg in all of those games.

It only locks their at large if they play as well as anticipated and probably win one more out of conf. game against a major team.

Are you people insane? One win over a middle of the pack SEC team does not get you an at large bid. How many teams on the bubble of the NCAA tourney the last few years were left out with much better wins than MS ST? That is a great win for the Winthrop program and the BS, but they still need to take care of business in conference to ensure a dance ticket. Now a couple of wins in the rest of their non-conference schedule and playing well in the BS will help them towards an at large. But, lets not punch that ticket to the NCAA's 4 games into the regular season.
Now, back to the orgins of this thread, the BS does still go through Winthop until proven otherwise.

I think it has been proven several times over, WU is head and shoulders above the rest of the BS. If they get beat, it will because they had an off night. They are similar to our girl's team, clearly the best in conference, but do get beat occassionaly. We should be so lucky to have as talented a men's team, hopefully sometime soon.

I hate to break up the WU drool thread but if WU goes undefeated except loses to 1 BSC team (and doesnt win the tourney which would make 2 losses) they are on the bottom end of a bubble and probably still wouldn't get an at large bid. This conference is an RPI killer.

Is anyone else watching Maryland dismantle the Eagles of Winthrop? Not their night. a little different than that game in 99 that I attended when Greg Lewis was of Winthrop was the best player on the floor and Winthrop lost in OT after being up 10 late in the game. Couldn't get a call. This time Gary Williams group is more than up to the task.

WU lost their legs tonight, and with it, their shot. Tons of open looks, not much Maryland has done as WU has not converted open looks.

That's basketball. Some nights you don't have it as an individual in terms of legs but when the whole team goes cold, this is what happens. . They are trying to make it closer near the end here though.

Interesting, should have played the walk-ons tonight, they cut it to a 11 point loss.
