Considering how this team started. 5th place would be positively amazing. Heck, Coach Layer probably is going to (or ought to anyway) get CoY votes for turning the team around midseason like he did.

the team did a good job turning things around but Coach Layer does not deserve any votes for CoY. This is what feeds ToC, completely ridiculous comments on the otherside of the spectrum when we have mild success.

I am not trying to take anything away from what this team has done because they have done a heck of a job, but BJ keep the ridiculously positive posts down to a minimum.

CoY will likely be Laing at Campbell since they were 12-19 last year. Barclay has done a good job with a young backcourt at CSU as well. Layer will get a few votes though.

Almost all of those games were on the road even the one at Randolph College. Having Geilo in the rotation, JVP coming off the bench has helped, and shortening the bench to 7-8 players has also helped.

Im not saying it didnt LUConn, Im saying that considering we were 0-6 and very easily could have mailed it in on this season, but DL and the guys didnt give up and now we are 8-9 and after staring 9th or 10th in the face, we could finish 5th if things fall just right tomorrow, its definitely something to be lauded. Maybe not with any awards but certainly is something worth noting

We spend more $$ on basketball than George Mason and VCU yet we applaud mediocrity in the BSC. That is why there is so little respect for LU athletics outside the bubble and BJ/PH are now the puppet masters.

How many spots are on each ballot? If it's a case where everyone who votes picks their top 3 guys, and we do end up 5th, there's no reason to think Layer won't get a few votes (but none 1st place). To keep tinkering with things until the right rotation was found, especially after the awful rash of injuries and even worse start to the season, is an excellent coaching job and will likely get some recognition if the voters have more than 1 spot on their ballots.

T or C has a valid point---

Possibly finish 5th but some how everyone is excited.... in years past a higher finish would have been scrutinized really hard, like a 2nd, 3rd, 2nd.... Just saying.

That is because guys like PH and BJ do a wonderful job for the "Obama (JB) Administration" of lower expectations. It is politics my friend...if you are a Democrat right now paying $3.59/gallon of gas is acceptable....can you imagine if GW. Bush was in office the clamoring that would be going on. Like I have said all along some on here (need) to sell the fact that 6th or 5th is progress and lower attendance is the path to progress. Then when they are pushed like the democrats the tactic is "politics of destruction of our past coaches." Sad.

You vote 1-2-3 on the all-conference ballot for coach of the year. So there's a possibility he'll get third place votes.

As much as I was sold on voting for Laing or Radebaugh for much of the year, I'm really starting to lean toward Biedenbach. To go 8-1 on the road in league (and have the one loss come after the conference title is wrapped up) is impressive, and living up to huge preseason expectations isn't easy either. Eddie had the best team, yes, but he kept them steady throughout the year.

Yep, if they beat Campbell then the thought process for some is going to go something like this:

Lost his best scorer, a senior leader, for the year in preseason.
Lost his best post player for the year in preseason.
Lost his best freshman for 11 games in preseason.
After a horrible start, the team kept fighting and reeled off a 9-3 conference record down the stretch with back-to-back wins over #2 and #3 in the final two games.

The buzz that finish would create, especially after the start, could easily bring enough attention to get a few 3rd place votes tossed his way.

I didn't realize they did it 1-2-3 for coaches as well. I guess I should of assumed.

I mean no 1st place votes, he has done a good job getting this team to where they are at now but coach of the year candidates don't have 0-6 starts

Big south history lesson....the people that vote are stupid, SID, radio, newspaper, coaches, etc

All the fans see is the 1 home game against an opponent,

(so if a player has a bad game at PC for example, but is good everywhere else, usually the PC voters will not vote for player A)

next thing is coach of year award, (example 3 seasons ago VMI picked 8, finish 2, but CoY goes to B Greenberg whose team picked first and finished 1). Last season LU picked 6 or 7, finish 2 DL gets COY.. It makes no sense to me.

A lot of wrongs have come in league awards, Aluma was screwed and Blair in Tournament as well.
