We just have to be a little patient. We won BSC championship in '94 and '04 . . . so we will win in '14 Play Basketball

We had a committee hire in '97 and an AD hire in '07 that have set us back.

Definition of insanity; Keep doing what you are doing and expect different results.

BJ....what are you referrring to.

Checkmate (and his 47 different other usernames...or at least it felt like he had 47 other usernames) was a poster who had a major hardon for RD and had a severe dislike of our current AD and only seemed to come around when we were doing poorly

Manson starts a thread on "Where the talent?"....not an unfair question. A number of posters comment on the question that is an obvious observation if you watch the team play now verse what I saw in past.

It is like saying "Obama is the job's president" or "the administration is friends of Isreal." Four years of Obama leadership/policies have failed to serve the American economy. secure the border or match the rethoric. Time for change.

In my world of sales if monthly quota's are not met...all the spin in the world will not change the bottom line...we are sold that LU must change to a "new brand of Christianity", that we must lower of standards to be more "student/athlete friendly". Maybe we should be prioritizing hires who are passionate about selling the preparation of becoming a "Champion for Christ."

Back to the thread...I have said it two or three times, "Who is resiponsible for recruiting? Were salaries higher in past, recruiting budget, facilities? Now we are going with junior college recruits? How many young players will leave or run off?

Some on this board must work in the athletic department, be related to AD or just live on fantansy island to say we have failed to meet the expectations of that are sold by the athletic departments own promotions. Because I have notice in football or basketball if someone doesn't march to the "we just need time" or the redefining mediorce or poor as "progress" than the same attack dog posters try to rally a meaningless defense or demean the poster. Or now I am someone I don't know :dontgetit or the "some are only on here when we are losing" whining :violin . In athletics and sales usually there is an honest appraisal of performance based on numbers but it seems that many on here prefer a mindless exercise in spinning their "if only" rhetoric.

no matter how good or bad these teams have been, this thread exists because we haven't had any electric athletes since Anthony Smith. I'm not even joking.

We just placed 2nd last year!

Actually I am Bob Barker..."make sure your pet is spayed or nuetered" :rofl

Who is Lconn, Oldflame (seems to be attorney general for athletics), grm, manson, sumitup...what does it matter....i don't think the chancellor will ask any of us to next board meeting....it is opinions about athletic performance not an FBI investigation.

I am amazed at how a number on here can dish it out but can't deal with reality. :flamethrower

Looking forward we having a 1-4 UNC-Wilmington at Vines tomorrow. Maybe our latent talent will manifest itself for a victory.

I was going to make that point as well manson. The tenor of his posts is very similar.

Id like to note that the only reason that we question that you are Checkmate is that the timing of your appearance in the basketball forum as well as the tenor of your comments is very similar to his

Lconn = LUconn
oldflame = oldflame
manson = jcmanson

We don't change our name on here. We could care less what your real name is.

truthorconsequences = checkers

jcmanson wrote:I almost hate to start this thread because I know what will end up happening, but I feel something needs to be said. We have made no progress in our program for multiple years. Yes last year was a bright spot, but then we choked when it mattered. I don’t want to hear any excuses about injuries, etc. Everyone deals with those. But looking at our roster I see no:

Larry Blair
Dwight Brewington
Anthony Smith
David Dees
Gabe Martin
Kyle Ohman
Seth Curry
BJ Jenkins
Brolin Floyd
Alex McLean
TeeJay Bannister
The list goes on and on…

Do we have any that will be here next year?

Where is our talent? Are we trying to win the local church league or are we trying to win at the D1 level?

There’s no enthusiasm in this program. None. The Vines is desolate, cold, and quiet. We have game threads with 19, 20, 23, 26 posts when I make that many posts in my sleep.

I have a hard time convincing myself to make the 2 hour drive to watch the team play, and I love this University and its athletic program.

I think Layer is a good coach, but is he bringing in the talent to compete at this level? I feel he’s going to get a pass this year because of the injuries. I feel he’ll get a pass next year because we’re “rebuilding” after Jesse graduates.

I want to be able to brag on my school’s basketball program. I want to have a vested rooting interest deep into February. I want my wife to have to beg me to stop going to bball games.
So I guess its safe to say you have retracted from your comments from the beginning of the season when you stated that we are more deeper and talented than last years group and that was after JB was already out for the year

I have stated this for a long time and I believe its one of the main issues with the program. There are absolutely no athletes on the current squad. Honestly right now I am probably more exciting to watch than these guys. Fans dont want to come to games where there is no possibility of seeing an electric play. There is not one player who can bring that even Jesse. Dunton had some athletes but some of the kids character were spotty at best. With that being said I have seen a bunch of games and to be honest if you are just a casual fan or a student you will find the game completely boring.

We lost Evan, Jeremy Anderson and JB that contributed last year.

I thought Speaks, Gielo, Smith, Baird, and improvements from Burris, JVP, Ogukwe, JCS would have made us deeper and more talented than last year.

We've gotten nothing out of Gielo, Smith, and Baird.

My point exactly. I knew we werent as good talent wise period. Next year should be pretty good as the two JUCO guys should make a huge impact. Coronado specifically is a beast.
