One of the fastest rising stars statewide among college basketball coaches since the spring has been Lexington Christian junior Taylor Barnette.

The state's best long-range shooter, the 6-foot-2 Barnette has been busy trying to keep track of all of the college interest in his game.

"I love it," Barnette said. "It's awesome."

Barnette has already taken unofficial visits to Eastern Kentucky and he also went to Western Kentucky for the Hilltoppers elite camp. He will be heading to Xavier on Friday and Miami of Ohio on Saturday of this week.

With already having offers from James Madison, Liberty, Jacksonville and Belmont, Barnette said he's had heavy interest from David Lipscomb and William & Mary.

Western Kentucky and Belmont have stopped in to see him and EKU and Lipscomb are scheduled to come to Lexington Christian today. He said Davidson has called and is scheduled to stop by soon and Notre Dame is also coming to the school.

"It's a lot of fun for me," Barnette said. "I'm just taking it all in. I don't want to rush it but if I go on a visit and I live it then I might think about (committing)."

Barnette, who averaged 15 points a game as a sophomore, had a sensational spring and summer shooting the ball. During the State AAU tournament, Barnette went 11 of 13 from three-point range in one game and had 19 three's in a four-game span.

His sister, Sarah Beth, was Kentucky's Miss Basketball last season and will be a freshmen this upcoming season at the University of Kentucky.

If EKU is serious and this kid relies heavily on his long-range scoring, they could hang in until late based on their brand of ball. Jeff Neubauer is a former John Beilein assistant and is keen on running the Two-Guard Offense that Beilein wrote.

Known as the state’s best shooter, 2012 two star combo guard Taylor Barnette has been working on becoming more than just a shooter. The 6-2, 170 pound junior has put a lot of focus on improving his mid range game and working on floaters with either hand, making defenders weary of only guarding him at the three-point line.

Taylor Barnette is a very smooth player. He has the ability to light it up from anywhere behind the arc on any given night. The main thing about Barnette is a very smart player and does’t force anything.

His shot reminds me very much of Jeremy Anderson...as in if you give him even a little bit of room, he will rise and fire...and it looks like he hits from 3 on a pretty consistent clip...only got to see him run the floor once but definitely looks like someone who could throw one down on the break but usually will take the layup

Shooters are at a premium in college basketball. So the increased recruiting interest for Lexington (Ky.) Christian standout Taylor Barnette isn’t a surprise.
As a junior, Barnette averaged 17.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per outing, while shooting 44-percent from the field and 36-percent from behind the three-point stripe.

“I think it went pretty well,” Barnette said of his year. “It started off a little slow and then we got things going. I ended up being All-City. I was the only junior to do that.”

Barnette is known for his ability to shoot the ball from three, but he’s made considerable improvements to his ball handling and mid-range game.

“I shoot the ball pretty well,” Barnette said. “I have a pretty good mid-range game. I like to think I’m a pretty good passer. I’m a true three-point shooter. I like to come off screens and I see the court the well.

Up to this point, Barnette, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard, has scholarship offers from Belmont, Lipscomb, Liberty, James Madison, LeHigh, Samford and Navy.

He also has interest from Oklahoma State, Stanford, Princeton, Notre Dame, Virginia, Richmond, Elon, UNC-Wilmington, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville, Murray State, Oregon State, Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, George Mason, Northeastern and Miami.

Barnette has taken unofficial visits to Belmont, Lipscomb, Xavier, Miami-Ohio and Eastern Kentucky and he’s hoping to take a few more in the near future.

“I'm going to visit every school that I can and the ones that seem most interested,” he said.

Barnette, who plays with the Nashville Celtics on the AAU circuit, is planning to play out the summer and possibly by the end of July or early in his senior year make his college choice.

Really? Consistency from 3 reminds you of JA?

More the fact that he is very quick on the trigger with his shot. If he is quick to rise and fire and he hits it consistently that is going to really force defenses to play out which would open things up for the inside players

Lexington (KY) Courier-Journal wrote:Barnette commits to Central Florida

Lexington Christian sharpshooter Taylor Barnette had several other official visits set up, but on Thursday he went ahead and pulled the trigger. The 6-2 senior committed to Central Florida, picking the Knights over Wofford, Samford and Liberty, among others. He had 20 offers.

“I went for a visit and left there with a great feeling about it,” Barnette said. “I knew it was the place for me. I love the coaching staff, I love coach (Donnie) Jones. The climate is fantastic and the campus is awesome.

“It’s just a great fit for me, and I loved everything about it.”

As a junior he averaged 17 points and six rebounds and shot 36 percent from three-point range.
