Every league has bad officials and the ACC has more than a few. I'm not too familiar with the 2 guys in reference but that's not the point.
Well, I'm familiar with both of them. And while the average fan thinks the ACC refs are horrible, they continue to grade out as the best in the country. Also, there are no longer just "ACC refs" or "Big East refs". At that level, they work multiple conferences. They'll have one that's their primary conference, but it doesn't mean they are exclusive to that conference.

I know each conference has officials that are not up to par with some of the other officials there. But, I can tell you that Heater & Clinton aren't those guys.

Haize, remember I said the human eye... I was there so I didn't have the stats, so when VMI scored off of rebounds I concluded they outrebounded us however incorrectly. Still the point goes it doesn't matter, it's what you do off the rebounds that matter.

And yes, ACC referees are omniscient gods. It's not like I ever hear ACC fans complaining about them....

Holy crap...can you get it through your head? Are ACC refs perfect? No....they do miss calls. Do they miss as many as the fans claim they do? No.

You make my point. You can train the HUMAN EYE to look for specific things that the average person does not see. Basketball officials are trained to see things that others do not see. Is it a perfect science? No, but on the whole, officials don't make that many mistakes during the course of a game. You can even look it up if you want to.

Seriously I'm not even sure how it got to me talking about the refs again... I simply didn't think they were good but it was nowhere nearly the reason we lost so I never covered it. Believe me one dude in the LU section was yelling at almost every call. Even ones I knew were clean.

Again, to state the obvious... the refs might make a mistake, but, bottom line, they're trying to earn a living, and it does not meet their ends in any way to do a bad job, & they usually don't give a "flying flip" (whatever that means) about who wins or loses.

Plus, I think basketball is absolutely the most difficult sport to officiate (I've called hockey, basketball, & baseball/softball) with all kinds of judgments required in areas that are not exactly black & white... i.e. did he establish position before the driver made contact...

I'm sure we all know that, but we are also emotional humans who have our own views of the play when our teams & our kids are playing...

Thus the catcalls & the high blood pressures

read just a little bit of what was said here and just going to add my 2 cents...

1. The refs missed a few calls both ways, but even if you look at the fouls, they didn't help VMI. I sat there a few times and said "Thats a bad call" when the calls were in Liberty's favor. Overall the refs were fine.

2. Austin Kenon is a freaking SNIPER. We didn't attempt to guard him and he made us pay, and by the time we started guarding him, he was so in the zone he would have went off blind folded.

3. DJ Covington is a STUD... That kid is a BEAST. Coming off an injury and still playing like a stud says something about him. I'll say it now, and most will laugh, but if he stays at VMI and stays healthy he will be better than AZ Reid. Watch.

4. We just didnt have very much "want to win" in us... You could tell we knew we had locked up second place.

5. On a positive note, We have to know that our attitude and commitment to the things that got us to where we are won't stay this way long. VMI just came out and flat beat us, and honestly, we probably needed it.

6. If VMI continues to play like that, they will be a force in the tourny (Play like that: drive and kick for better looks at 3, feeding the post, getting great looks at the basket)

Oh well, Onward and upward!

Can he shoot like AZ though?

AZ is only 6'4". He rebounded like JB and could post up on anyone in the league with his "old man" game and hit a 3 now and then, but it wasn't his strength.

Covington is an athletic 6'9" shotblocker and dunker. I agree that he is good now and is going to be even better if he stays healthy, but I see almost no similarity between their games.
