EDIT: nevermind. I'm not going to discuss this issue anymore. I think it's about time we got back on topic about Anthony Smith. He deserves the recognition more than this running LU vs. LC discussion.

Anyone think he has a chance to make it to the D league, or is it straight to an international league or one of the other American pro leagues?

Funny that he would talk about Ant Smith..because last year Ant and several other LU guys played pick up in Turner Gym(LC) and it was a total laugh...Ant had several highlight reel dunks and was stroking the three ball..while LC kids tried to shoot long threes all day...This Mason Woolridge guy horrible..transfer from West Virginia...played approx 20 seconds a game at WVU for 5 or 6 games was getting his shot thrown off his forehead by none other than the super post player Armon Jones. LC would not beat the LU womens team much less the mens teams in any sport. The kids LC brings in arent better than the local talented high school basketball players and they refuse to deviate from the cookie cutter mode that theyve been in for 10 seasons.

I am fairly certain they have tied, if not beaten, us in soccer before.

Other than that, you're probably right.

Going back a number of years when the LC baseball program was in it's glory days and we were new to D1, we played them a few times. I can't recall if they won any or not.

In basketball, Liberty demolished LC 84-50 during the 2005-06 season. It is the only time the two squads have faced off against each other (LC fans breathe a sigh of relief).

In baseball, Liberty beat Lynchburg College in 1986 & 1987.

I do not consider any of these victories to be accomplishments, much in the same way that if Mike Tyson beat the shrimpy kid from Napolean Dynamite up, it's not really a victory.

That basketball game was for the money, similar to when LU would play top 25 ranked teams and get blown out everytime. Maryland probably doesn't consider their 44 point victory to be any more of an accomplishment.

$$$ - same reason why we are playing Radford this year on November 17 and Roanoke is playing them on December 13.

That 30+ point drubbing is irrelevant. All that matters is how LC matched up against their fellow D3 opponents that season.

So wait a second, it's okay to indirectly insult his son when Fumble is dead, but not when he's alive? If that's not disrespectful towards Fumble Sr. then I don't know what is.

Careful there: Fumble was a GREAT friend of mine, but he understood the difference between DI and DIII, and he wouldn't dream of making the crazy comparisons that you are. And I in NO WAY insulted his son, Jeff, Jr.

How is it crazy to say that we are more competitive against others D3s, based on an unbiased statistic kno0wn as winning percentage, than LU is against other D1s. The proof is in the statistic. It's not like I'm saying Lc would beat LU in every sport 9 times out of 10, but comparing each school to their respective level, LC wins more often, just like TTL pointed out...

Secondly, I don't see how one can compare a kid to a special olympian and view that as anything but an insult. Let's say you had just gotten an article published in the News and Advance, but someone comes along who got an article published in the NY Times and they say your accomplishment is nothing better than special olympic quality compared to his. I think most would be insulted by such a statement after putting in the hard work to get your article published and then someone comes along and says such a thing about it.

Hi, after the last few comments I just wanted to say something:
I am new to this board. I don't know who / what Fumble is, or his son Jeff. I do not know what condition they are in, and I meant no harm to anyone specific during my last comment. I apologize if I did. I was making a jesting remark and I offer my sincerest apologies if anyone was offended.

It's ok L4L since you didn't know. Fumble's, short for Fumblerooskies, real name was Jeff Taylor, Sr. and he was a man who posted on here that was an athletic training professor at LU. His son, Jeff Taylor, Jr., is a current baseball player at LC. Back in April or May, Fumble was throwing pitches to Fumble Jr. in batting practice at LC. Somehow, despite throwing behind one of those protective screens (it was common practice for him to be at every game and he would often attend practice and throw BP to his son in the offseason), Fumble Jr. hit a pitch and it came back and hit Fumble Sr. in the lower jaw/throat area. He collapsed on the field and died later that day.

BUMP (with interview & pic)
Former Liberty men’s basketball standout Anthony Smith helped the Indiana Pacers win the 2009 NBA Pepsi Pro Summer League, hosted by the Orlando Magic at the RDV Sportsplex in Orlando, Fla., last month.

Smith started four of the five games the Pacers played on their way to a perfect 5-0 record. Smith averaged a steady 5.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg and 0.8 apg over a 19.8 mpg average for the event.

I read an article where some very good basketball players are fighting for the 14th roster spot on the pacers. Probably not the best team for him to be with.

This bickering about who's better is a little comical. Lynchburg, as whole, is all the better for having both. I would like to see discussion on how the schools could complement one another versus how they outshine one another; it is a shame that some of the higher ups in the schools have ill will towards their counterparts, but maybe, with time, those attitudes will change.

Anyway, more power to Ant- there is always Europe, but it would be great to see him play here.

I came on to this thread to get updated about Ants career and was a little surprised at the direction it took. I am somewhat unique in that I have attended school at LC and LU. My take on this argument is ... so what? Who cares? I am now in my 40's and still compete in athletic events. For my age I do very well, often placing first in my age division. While I am proud of my accomplishments, I would never attempt to compare what I do with what the elite athletes accomplish. It's apples and oranges. I wish I could do what they do, but I can't. With that being said, I am content with what I can accomplish in my little division and would NEVER try to to compare what I do with a higher division athlete. I won more events this summer in my division than Usain Bolt did in his ... this fact does not even begin to put me at his level or give me the right to be mentioned in the same sentance. (actual, it's rather comical) In the LU vs LC debate lets accept what each school is and what each school does. They are different and never shall the two meet. Let it go! Rejoice in the success of both and just let it go! These comparisons between the two have been absolutely ridiculous. Let's move on!

We did move on from the comparison's in this thread. We moved away from the discussion over a month ago...
