Ill take him, even if he becomes a bust I'll take a flyer on a kid with unique gifts for his size. This is the same criticism that Dirk faced heavily early in his career and still so today. I dont expect him to be a savior and definetely not Dirk. However I will take a player who is 6'10 can shoot and block shots. I guarantee you there will be several other guys much less deserving of a roster spot and PT than he will be at the end of his time here. Just look at the upside if he pans out. Radford was a joke and they get a good Big South big man and they go to town. Why not take a shot especially with the other teams that showed interest. Give the guy a chance before you crucify him geez.

And that's what Carter brings. Parahouski can't guard him, and he's too big for a swing man to cover. Which is where he will be most valuable.
We play a zone the majority of the time, so Parakhouski wouldnt have to worry about guarding him, plus we have 6'8 Laz Trifunovic playing the wing this year and I think hell be able to hold his own against Carter McBrittle :D

If we play zone when Carter is in, that would really play towards his strengths and try to hide that weakness.
Apparently, there's a lot more to a zone than you realize.

No, he could play the center of a 2-3 zone which would allow him to use his shotblocking ability to drivers and slashers into the paint. Most people who post up are posting up on the block and 9 times out of 10 they are posting up the forward and not the center.

See, I told you so.

I would be shocked if Layer allowed his forwards to be posted 9 out of every 10 times, with Carter just playing behind.

If it applies...

Look, I'm not going to argue much more here. I have nothing to prove. You were right to say that most players who post-up do so on the block (Genius!). But they also do so on the BALL SIDE, meaning your wing is usually going to be out on the ball so your guard can stay in the high post.

All of this to say that playing the center exclusively behind in a 2-3 (or any zone, for that matter) is a defeatist strategy.

I never said that he would be played “exclusively behind.” I said it would help play to his strength of shotblocking and downplay his apparent weakness of being able to defend someone stronger than him. Of course there would be times he would be posted up, but in zones there are lots of ways you can try to keep him from being posted up. Last year, since we were so undersized, our forwards fronted the post to keep from being posted. If someone tried to post Carter, he could fight for position to stay in front of them. It would be very difficult to throw the ball to someone over his size and reach.

Yes, they generally post up on the BALL SIDE, but many times the offensive guard is making the post entry. The defensive guard will be guarding the man making the entry with the forward defending the man posting.

The point I was trying to make was that a zone can help hide Carter’s weakness more so than straight up man to man.

Apples to oranges. Preference more than anything, I think.

I prefer to double out of a m-2-m, using the low weakside defender.

Well I was just saying be careful throwing around the word crucify so loosely. I think when you use intense words for less intense situations it hurts the use of the word. Just like the word love. People have used that word too loosely and now it doesn't have as strong of a meaning as it should.

It's just like saying that we are going to rape a team. I mean, I have said that before, don't get me wrong, but its just using a really intense over exaggeration.

And as far as calling you jinxy cat... Have you ever seen Meet the Parents? That's why I call you jinxy cat...
