He had a NLI from Patrick Konan, a player who wasn't even on our radar screen before, within a week of his hire. He has retained Vander Pol and got a letter from Perez, and hired 2 assistants, and let's not forget his number 1 recruiting coup, which was getting Jesse to stay.

Keep in mind also that there has been (and still may be) some ambiguity as to who is returning and who is not. I expect at least 1-2 more signees before May 20.

I agree, Layer has moved very quickly having to come in behind the 8 ball...keep in mind guys McKay had his feet under him when he brought us our Freshman last year...wait until Layer gets his feet under him next year before fair judgment can be passed

McKay was hired in the same approximate time frame as Layer in 07, and his first recruiting class he signed Jeremy Anderson, with Nate Campbell having already signed with RD in the early period, and Orukpe requesting his release. This year's Freshman class was mostly put together in November of 07, with Jesse and Bill coming in later.

I think DL chooses to keep his hand closer to his chest than McKay did. I don't think there is much difference in their style and how they recruit, just that Layer likes to keep things under wraps while McKay didn't mind if things were leaked.

Just my stab at it.

9 more says unitl the period ends, hopefully layer will release some information public soon, Does anyone know about any possible recruits that might sign in these next 9 days? I would not be surprise to hear about a JUCO transfer because of how late it is in the period, Most really good freshmen who are still available are looking at prep schools right now and they are waiting for next year to raise there chances of getting better schools to offer them scholarships.Does anyone know when Layer is going to hire another Assistant coach?I would think we need more than just 2 assistants

I was thinking that we should have more than 2 assistants as well.

There's a Flames Club luncheon this week (Thursday) The radio ad said that Layer (and others) will be speaking. Any chance there would be any announcements made at the luncheon (either re: hires or signees)?

Also, has anyone (here) figured out for sure if there will be one or two or three spots available? AND, if no one is signed by the 20th, does that mean no one WILL be signed, or is there still a possibility that someone could be signed later? (I'm clueless about this, also lazy, I could probably look it up somewhere...)

May 20 is the deadline to sign players to a letter of intent, but if a scholarship is available they can give it to any athlete who qualifies, right up til school starts. Bill Weaver comitted after the end of the signing period last year.

I believe if both Austin and Johnny leave, we will have 3 scholarships left.

It would seem that the luncheon would be the perfect time to make any announcements about signees or hires. Hopefully we will know something soon.
