Both are true. Scar, How many times did you personally set off the TP storm?? That was so much fun. Therefore you are #3!

Here's how I see it:

All-time MVP: Matt Hildebrand ('91-'94)

Best Backcourt: Marcus White & Larry Jackson ('95-'97)

Best Front Rotation: Aluma, Dixon, & Chapman ('94)

Honorable Mention: everyone else

Big smooth I like what you have here... I got one debatable question, if LU wouldn't have won the 94 title would Hildo even be considered. I mean they were underachieveing that year and just got hot and won the tournament, as a former 94 team member has once told me. Only Jackson and White played in 2 BSC championship games and Aluma played in 3 and was the MVP of 2 of them!!

I got respect for Hildo and putting LU on the map, but Aluma was the MVP and has probably won more games than in anyone since LU became D-1

Scar: Why Brewington, you give a guy credit who was there 1 season, honor the guys that was the total Liberty student-athlete, not just some one hit wonder... Aluma, Hildabrand is what Liberty Student-athletes are all about. example, character, 4 year players, living on campus for at least 2 years, going to chapel, etc.

Scar was just saying that Brew was one of the 2 best based on talent, that's a lot different than saying he is one of the 2 best ever.

My original post had Aluma & Hildebrand as the two most important players in program history.

I give the edge to Hildebrand as the all-time MVP because of his all around game and his leadership.

In '94 Hildebrand, Aluma & Co. were red hot at the end of the season. They won their final 10 games and effectively rolled through a competitive tourney on the road. After that, they had #1 UNC on the ropes for the first three quarters of that game. Hildo was the whole show in the backcourt. If we had just one more guard who could play, we could have pulled the upset. Moreover, Hildo just took over that game in the conference final and suddenly LU was on the national radar. In fact, a USA Today writer said that he saw real sweet-sixteen potential in LU, until they drew the UNC game, which seemed insurmountable at the time.

Also, had Hildo played home tourney games, he very well could have won a couple more championships with Juice, Coleman, Hickman, and Ferguson.

The White and Jackson teams fall a little short to the '94 team because they had two back-to-back conference tournaments at home and lost them both. The shocking loss to CSU in the '97 final was devastaing to this program and marked the begining of several major setbacks that followed.

Aluma had a great career here, but seemed like he was at his best as a lean freshman rotating with Dixon and Chapman. To me, that was a big-time front as evidenced by how they handled Wallace & Montrose so well.

Factor in how he was used, which was primarily coming off the bench, and you have the top 6th man in LU history.

And, of course, Scar is wrong (what else is new?). Brew, on talent, can't compare to either Aluma or Nwosu. I wouldn't even say he compared to Gabe Martin.

Ed, so you are saying that both Aluma or Nwosu could have played in the Big East, like Brew did? And didn't Brew shoot something like 60% from the field last year? That's Katie Feenstra type numbers.

Comedian: Gary Yoder

Why no talk of Cliff Weber? I'd take him at center in any era. Jimmy Peirce could have been the most intense player ever at LU, and had huge talent.

Wow, I didn't know I was wrong about so many things Ed. Oh, well, can't please everyone. I still say in terms of talent and pure basketball skills Brew was one of the best. Gabe Martin? Wow. I love Gabe but he couldn't dribble or create his own shot nor could he pass that well. Gabe knew his limits and he played to his strengths. He Woodson and I used to have heated discussions on why Gabe should never take more than 2 dribbles before picking it up. Now in terms of skills it is hard to judge Aluma and Nwoso as compared to the others because those guys were really bigger and stronger than most in the big south. Juice is and was an amazing player though. Aluma had better post moves. Juice was more athletic. Having played with or against most of the guys in the discussion I feel like I have SOME insight
