I didn't realize that my last post was post # 666. I should have posted "beast" with a line through it.

Oh lord, another guy who thinks Winthrop is his team's rival.
Good to see you back Realist- I figured you'd guys would still be trying to call all the Winthrop fans who filled out that BSC tourney ticket form that WU Athletics posted on their website almost 2 weeks ago.. OOpppss- How are ticket sales for the game at Winthrop tomorrow?? Oh wait- Didn't anyone tell you that you had to be the #1 seed first?? Homecoming- Senior Night- all the crowd needed was a win and it would have been ahhh-mazing..

Rivals more because of proximity, bad blood in recent years and the fact that Gregg and Eddie hated each other- plus you guys on your board always bring up Kragel's jumper from 2003 & we're the one's that have beaten you in the tourney most frequently- [Note- 2003 game hosted at Liberty (thanks!)]..

Our truest rival left when UNC-Greensboro left the conference in 1997- those games were intense!

We've owned you like everyone else. Talk all the junk you like. Make sure to win it this year though, because it'll be another 4-5 years before you have a chance again. A blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile.

You aren't a rival. You're our doormat.

I like how you used my doormat example.. Seriously how are those ticket sales doin?? See- thats how cocky you guys are down on the 'Hill', especially with KK and the BSC banking on you to host the tournament..

All I know is that we've owned you guys this year, double digits at home & away- you guys are rooting for LU on your own boards, I've read the posts because you all know you don't match up against us at all!! Why don't you concentrate on AZ Reid and HPU- we can hopefully talk more on your board Friday!

Have we really seen this thread turn into a discussion between a UNCA fan and a Winthrop fan over whether their schools are rivals?

For the record, I have always been under the impression that WU & CCU were rivals if anything. I didn't think folks in Asheville cared enough to have any rivalries. It seems everybody in the league considers either WU or CCU their rivals except the Virginia schools. And we are even amping up our animosity toward the Chants beyond football these days.

Wow... I used to root for Ashville in non-LU games because they were underdog status... now I may have to rethink that... they are apparently the Big South powerhouse.

That's just dumb. Go to Cameron Hall on a Saturday and find out what loud really is.
First of all...This whole convo is ridiculous. LU folks please remember that UNCA's student population has grown over the last few years and is now just barely above 3000. Our gym seats (officially) around what, 1150? So that means a sellout is over 1/3 of our student population. Pretty good sized gym for the student population. When the new arena is done it will seat around 85% of students...that is HUGE.

King, take it easy on the Liberty folks... I think they are largely expressing the same sentiments that I have. While I appreciate the great advantage we have in Justice its not good for the BSC as a WHOLE to showcase Justice (on ESPN) as the host.

YES, Asheville is one of the only BSC schools in an actual city but trends show that especially in Asheville (where people would rather watch trees than sports) support only is there for winning teams. The whole argument about venues etc. is tired.... Asheville has largely inferior facilities -- we also won the right to host at them this year. This does HURT the BSC as a whole... But its great for us. Anyway I feel like I just talked in a circle...Its getting too late for me to think.

hahaha.... Well, UNCA certainly has historically been something of a rival for WU in basketball, and probably Women's Volleyball. But other than that I'd say WU & CCU. If anything we need to get a rivalry going with Gardner-Webb...battle of the bulldogs.

Good point. I have a feeling that it won't take very long for G-W to fit in our league.

Here is the Asheville fishwrap on the tourney arena mess ...
1Small arena leads to unique UNCA plan

ASHEVILLE — Conventional wisdom regarding ticket sales for college basketball tournaments would include a package for all games, early availability for the ducats and taking care of the home folks who have supported your team all season.

But conventional wisdom goes out the window when you are dealing with four schools and just more than 1,100 seats in an outdated arena.
Somehow I get the feeling KK was smiling as he said this ...
“Obviously there are not going to be enough tickets for (the Liberty-Asheville) game,” said Kallander. “UNCA has the right to decide where they want to hold it. ... I’m concerned about making sure we can accommodate our fans and have the tournament in venues that represent the Big South.”

Let me preface this by saying this is not about the Justice Center. Last night was the best "atmosphere" I've ever been around at a game.

With that being said, do you guys not have bathrooms? We were in the student gym before the game while the WU/HPU game was going on, and to use the bathroom, I had to go outside, down some stairs, so a completely unlit area and go to a porta-potty. Why I was reaching around to find the thing to lock the door, I realized that the porta-potty wasn't on level ground and that it was rocking back and forth. I had to stand there trying to balance the porta-potty and pee at the same time. That's embarrassing to your school.

It represents the Big South perfectly...a 2-bit basketball conference with a half-wit commissioner...

Next thing we know, uncafan is going to start bragging about the "stuff" that goes on around Pack Square and the rest of its downtown area.

Charleston SC is much more of a city than either Ashville or Lynchburg, and High Point is also bigger. Rock Hill is a bit smaller, but it's just up the road from a REAL city in Charlotte.

The hick town schools in the BSC are VMI, Radford and CCU, although Conway at least is near Myrtle Beach, which isn't big population wise, but has disproportional ammenities because of tourism.
