Here's a recent update on one of the bigs we have been recruiting this season named Ronnie Morgan Jr. of South Oak Cliff HS in Dallas:
Quick take: What's inside makes SOC tough

09:45 PM CST on Saturday, January 7, 2006

South Oak Cliff had the best interior tandem in the state last season. That's true, although Darrell "Shady" Arthur doesn't have the same sidekick.

Arthur, the smooth 6-9 senior, is still the best player in the state when he wants to be.

DeSoto transfer Ronnie Morgan doesn't have a game as pretty as Kevin Rogers, the Baylor freshman who co-starred for SOC's Class 4A state champions last season. But Morgan is as productive.

The 6-6 Morgan's averages of 15.7 points and 8.0 rebounds entering the holiday tournaments are almost identical to the 6-8 Rogers' stats last season. Their styles, however, aren't similar.

Rogers is a spectacular leaper, as anybody who witnessed the alley-oop-athon he held with Arthur in the state final can attest, and has a sweet southpaw turnaround jumper. He was a big-time national recruit because of his phenomenal athletic ability and skills.

Morgan, the son of former SOC star Ronnie Sr., is more a hard-hat kind of guy. He's a banger and tenacious defender who significantly improved his offensive game during the off-season after being a role player for DeSoto's 5A runner-up squad. Michigan is among the schools that have shown interest in Morgan, ranked the state's No. 39 senior by Texashoops.com.

While Morgan won't match Rogers' windmill dunk total, he excels at throwing down two-handed, in-your-grill jams in traffic. What SOC lost in athleticism, it gained in grit and intensity.

They are a going to be a place kids will want to play if they want the Christian atmosphere at the D-1 level. With their new coach and the fact that they are in the Dallas area... the program has a huge upside.
