teejay is far from great. he is decent, but i'm not very impressed, especially for how hyped he was. no need to rehash everything SJ said, but he has a lot of room for improvement

None of this really pertains to Seth Curry in the slightest way.

The last time that I checked, he's solid academically, he hasn't torn his ACL yet, he wasn't recruited by Hank, he isn't partially deaf, and he isn't a back-up who's transferring in from the ACC -- But, he does have an All-American caliber brother who seems to think that Seth may actually be better at this stage than he was. His dad, Dell Curry, was an NBA great. We have published reports that he's getting better by the day -- and one guy went so far as to say that he actually likes Seth better than the blue chipper that's headed to Chapel Hill.

Nothing's a sure thing. You may not wake up tommorrow. However, there is a very strong case for optimism here for Seth Curry. And given his family history, I think he'll handle the pressure of playing in this huge media market just fine -- even as a freshman.

Optimism is great, and I share your optimism. I just don't want him to fall prey to the Liberty Hype Machine, something that very few athletes have ever conquered.

i for one am trying to prevent falling into any type of hype machine perpetuated by anyone. I know it's hard, but I try not to. I've fallen for the hype machine of coaches and recruiting websites in the past only to be burned by it far more often that not. So needless to say, I'm excited for this class yet skeptical at the same time. What if it turns on Curry and McMasters end up just being average players who got hyped up a lot? I don't think it will happen because they seem too good for it to happen, but you never know, I've seen worse hype than this before.

Liberty Hype Machine?

That's a poor excuse. If a player feels pressure in a tiny market like Lynchburg and within an environment like LU, then I'd have to question whether the player had any real game to begin with.

We need to get real on this now.

No one said pressure. You're making that up on your own.

What we mean by Liberty Hype Machine is people, a lot like yourself, hyping incoming players and/or coaches up to super-hero status before the player even steps foot on the field/court. You did it with Teejay more than anyone. People on here did it with Brew. We all did it like crazy before Rashad played his first year. All three of those players couldn't live up to the hype they had around them in their first year. Granted, Rashad improved tremendously after his first year, but his first year was disappointing to say the least.

This has nothing to do with cracking under pressure. No one said anything like that. What I'm talking about it people at Liberty making claims that Random Player is going to be just the thing we need to turn this ship around and that we're going to be so much better with them playing. The ball keeps rolling and rolling and rolling and rolling to where it's eventually so much bigger than the actual player that, even if the player is good, it doesn't live up to the hype of what they were built up to be.

So now we have something else to overcome, the infamous Liberty Hype Machine. If I was RM, I would have never come here. The LHM is too much to overcome.

Aren't Fans (FANATICS) supposed to hype their team's players when they feel excited about them? Isn't cheering HYPE?

I agree it can go overboard, but think that they players shouldn't let the HYPE from FANATICS effect them.

Well, I happen to be of the opinion that Tee Jay actually has game, and as a consequence, we have a shot at upsetting Winthrop in the tourney this year. He's a true point gaurd and a difference maker in areas that may escape the casual observer.

As far as Curry goes, we're simply passing on some information from published reports. For me, it's exciting. He appears to be what we hoped he'd be: a late-bloomer, over-looked by the majors, with his best days ahead of him.

I'm a believer.

Once again, you're not reading what's being written. Nothing I have said had anything to do with effecting the players. How you misconstrued that is completely baffling to me.

I think we have a chance to upset Winthrop a week from Tuesday, whenever we play them here, and if we play them in the tournament because of Coach McKay. I'm more impressed with the play of BJ Jenkins and Kyle Ohman than I am from Teejay. He's good. No one will deny that. He just doesn't show that all of the time. He shows flashes of it, and then goes back to being a decent point guard. He passes up open shots when we need points, he misses layups, and he fouls a lot. If he can just take some of those open shots, make one or two of the layups, and commit one less foul a game I will be the biggest Teejay Bannister fan there is. However, right now, we're just as productive with him on the court as we are with BJ running the point and Kyle playing the 2. Everyone I've talked to that knows Teejay has told me he isn't playing like the Teejay they know. If he can ever play like the Teejay they know, then I'll do cartwheels. Until then, I'm sorry for not being impressed. I'm not the only one though.

There was no hidden meaning. I don't know how you read into what I wrote because there was nothing past the surface.
