I followed part of the game on gametracker. Not that impressed since we blew an 18 point lead in the second half. BJ Jenkins with the late 3 to win it and held on. The coach has some work to do if we want to compete. That is what exhibitions games are for I guess.

Good team work!! congrats, You guys have no spirit. We won, bottom line we won.. after ony 10 practices together a long road trip we came out and in the end got it done. Take a break from the critisism and analyzing and give the guys some credit. Lets not dwell on what went right. Lets see if we can tear it down for gods sake. Negative Negative.

Glad to see BJ stepping up with the game on the line. I didn't follow along and I'll be curious to see some stats from today's victory.

The only thing that pops out is the number of fouls we committed. They had a lot more chances at the charity strip. FG % is definately in our favor and the rebounds looked even.

I hope you weren't saying that I was negative. Please re-read my post and clarify.

No sweat, grm. I'm certain that wasn't directed at you.

Steve is passionate about the Flames and has high expectations. So his posts sometimes come across a bit negative to some folk. Personally I like his frankness and his high expectations.

I might add that since there were only two prior posts, and kazport said "you guys" (plural) I might be justified in taking offense. You're not going to hear negative out of me, not toward the team or Coach RMK. If I get misrepresented as far as my posting goes, then I will take issue...

Yes Sly, I was posting while you posted. I don't want to get all teary-eyed and sensitive, but my fellow FlameFans
brothers ought to be careful in their generalizations...

No i should have directed it toward stevv. I had watched the whole game live stats. I was excited that they pulled it out and that Mclean and Smitty i thought had great games. And all the guys contributed. And then his post was " I'm not impressed blah blah. So i may have jumped the gun...

Glad to hear from you, Kaz, and thanks. There's one thing I know, (sportswise) and it's this -

"Any win is a good win." Liberty doesn't have any guaranteed victories on its schedule, and nobody else is playing with walk-ons either. So, again "thanks" and "Go Flames!"

(Just had the moment for Dr. Falwell, and the F-ball team just took the field)

Jenkins' Three Wins Crazy Game Over Brock University in Canada

September 1, 2007
St. Catharines, Ontario

Box Score

B.J. Jenkins hit a three-point basket with 49 seconds left to take a one-point lead as the Flames (1-0 exh.) held on to a 79-77 victory over the Brock University Badgers, at the Bob Davis Gymnasium, on Saturday afternoon.

Big Russ plays only 8 minutes and has zero points (wasn't he supposed to be our most improved player?).

I think the biggest thing that jumps out at me is the fact that Kyle Ohman (Walk On) played 33 minutes and had a good stat line. The other thing is that we started 4 guards, Bannister, Ohman, Smith and Jenkins along with McLean so the emphasis seems, based on the box score that speed and shooting was a focus of this group this game.

Some strange stats. How do you end up with 5 fewer FG attempts and 7 fewer FT attempst than your opponent when you out rebound them and have fewer turnovers?

Same observation as SCAR regarding the SMALL starting lineup and major minutes for Kyle. I wonder if the freshmen even made the trip. None played. That would explain Kyles minutes to some extent, and obviously RMc thinks he can play.

Ace is going to be on the line a lot. He needs to shoot better than 50%.

It will be interesting to see how Brock fares against their other NCAA opponents.

I watched the live stats and all I can say is it was nice to see everyone involved. Teejay got into foul trouble very early. It was just good to see the assist and fgs spread around.

Keep in mind, Anderson and Stephene were not eligible for this game (JA-illness; JS-personal).

My guess is that we're gonna need some solid gaurd play from a combination of Jenkins, Anderson, and Stephene in order to be competitive this season----just my opinion, though.

I'd say that the games up in Ontario served its purpose in helping to build much needed chemistry with our nucleous of Bannister-Smith-Mclean. So, in that sense, it's been successful.

BTW this Brock team beat North Florida 81-72 yesterday. They were not that good last year but North Florida did beat a good Lipscomb team last year.

Lipscomb good? What? Since when was 4th place in the Atlantic Sun conference good? They played a D3 Fisk University (who had a record of 5-18 last year) and only beat them by 12. Fisk ranked in the bottom 25% of D3 teams, and Lipscomb only beat them by 12. That's the kind of team a D1 school should destroy. Even 3-26 North Florida handled a sorry D3 team in Skidmore - a team that's even worse than Fisk.

Ok so they were not that great last year but the year before I thought Lipscomb had a good year. I am not in hoops mode and I am too lazy to do some internet research.

I'm not a big fan of comparisons, but I do get the idea of what Scar is trying to convey. He's just trying to evaluate what level of quality, if any, that this win represents.

There are quite a few positives that can be drawn here, even at this early juncture.

Personally, I think that it was a pretty solid showing considering the circumstances: TJ was in foul trouble for most of the game and BJ really stepped it up and demonstrated that he is capable of being a leader and playmaker at both backcourt spots. Moreover, several players were limited or held out altogther for various reasons. Most notably, Anderson and Baker were missed and both should add value and outside scoring strength, when fully healthy. Ozren-B was held out as well and he may be able to add some tenacity to our rebounding game.

So, there is still a great deal to learn about this team, but a solid showing given the circumstances, nontheless.
