Our D2 Flames look to continue their recent winning streak when they face their toughest opponent of the season this coming Saturday when they tee it up against the Penn State Lions.
The puck drops at 10:15 PM at the Penn State Ice Pavilion.
Penn State is one of the oldest and strongest programs in the ACHA.
The D1 team (Icers) are currently ranked #2 in the US.
The D2 team (Lions) are currently ranked #2 in the Northeast Division. (ACHA does not rank on a national basis until the end of the season)
Go Flames!

Here's a philistine question concerning the current set-up of an ACHA D1 team and a D2 team. Is this by any chance setting the groundwork and creating a structure for the future that would have the D2 team act as a sort of "farm team" for developing incoming freshman players in the future if LU ever takes the leap to NCAA Hockey?

my guess is that we would do as many college programs do: a NCAA (schollie) team and a D I ACHA club team.

this is a good start to establishing that kind of program- they both move up eventually.

just a theory though .

The Flames lost 7-0 but the score does not tell the story.

The Flames came alive the third period and played the Lions to a 0-0 score.
The 3rd was very entertaining hockey; fast-paced, physical and intense. :!:

Without making excuses for poor 1st period play, it is tough to jump out of a van after a 6 hour ride and skate with a team of this caliber (top 5 nationwide).

Game Notes:
A Flames defenseman went down with a possible broken collar bone and a concussion.
Over 20 FlameFans in attendence.

Next up - Georgetown at LaHaye.

No doubt the Ice Lions are a tough club- thats a good program up there. Nice to hear the guys didn't just mail it in during the 3rd period.
