The Renegades of the Southern Professional Hockey League travel to lahaye friday night to open up their pre-season schedule. the except below is from the renegades website.
The Renegades will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia and play a game at LaHave Ice Center located on campus of Liberty University. The game will be played Friday, October 17th at 7:35 pm against the ACHA Division 1 Liberty Flames who have been to the ACHA Nationals in each of the past four seasons. It will be played under SPHL rules and officiated by SPHL assigned on-ice officials. Prices have been set at $8 for the general public and $5 for students. You can order your tickets for that game at the Renegades office (644-7825).

this will be an interesting game indeed. According to the richmond website, they also say the game is almost sold out.

This could be a great game - I am concerned that it is being played under SPHL rules.
The fighting rules in this "pro" league allow for multple altercations before GM's & EJ's are handed out.
Other than providing great entertainment and $ for the DI team, I don't see why LU would schedule this tilt.

Pete Masterson is also on the team. He was one of our top players. Richmond has some pretty good alumni who have moved through their arena.

I have to think that Richmond has been told not to fight. That would be a real bad situation - these guys fight a lot and it would not be pretty for them to hurt a college club team player.

Go Flames.

This "pro" team coming to Liberty, is a huge publicity stunt. The head coach of the Renegades has stated that this is game in which he is going to be looking at his rookies, in other words this is a try out for his rookies. Most hockey players know that try outs mean that players are going to try and prove themselves by playing whatever role they play i.e., enforcer, sniper. This could turn out bad for liberty, in that these guys probably don't care one way or the other about hurting some ACHA hockey player to make a "pro" team and getting paid to play hockey. As for Liberty and the Hockey program this is a way to generate huge ticket sales, that seems to me to be a horrible reason to risk your season and your players safety. If the physical concern existed from Liberty's perspective, then common sense would have suggested not to play a "pro" team that is known for it's, shall we say, physical side of the game and to agree to play SPHL rules.

I'll be there cheering the flames on. Let's hope the fan's don't embarrass our school with ridiculous chants.

Flames win 5-4 on a goal from Chung in the last 3 min. of the game. The goal was from the far corner he hit side netting top shelf. it was awesome!

What an amazing game. Richmond came out and really set the tempo and Liberty answered. I am very proud to have been in the stands.

Do not underestimate the power of the LUantics...all chanting on and off campus either starts or goes through the LUantics, show some respect
