2025 Recruiting Discussion

I didn't see another one of these created. I see 2024 and 2026... given that we have our first batch of visitors in town for this class and we started camps, we should have one. Looking through the official visitor list, it looks like they're all 3 stars and 1 4 star. Some of the 3 stars appear to have interest from some P4 teams.

Looks like two of those visitors committed via sea of red (that we, the viewers, know of).

It’s interesting that you said you’re not excited about transfers who “will likely be gone before meaningful playing time” but are excited for high school commits who are even more likely to be gone before they see meaningful playing time.

Honestly Im excited for both, even if some of the players don’t see the field in a meaningful way. The reasoning is that our attractiveness as a destination seems to be increasing. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with NY6 but I also think the changing NIL landscape may be nudging some recruits our direction but I have nothing to back that up.

Also it seemed that many underrated Chadwell as a recruiter as well before he came here. He out-recruited us when he was at Coastal so maybe he’s bringing some of that magic here now with a full season under his belt.

We just picked up a 4 star running back that may be our highest rated commit, ever. A slew of other 3 star commits, a few with P4 offers also committed. We saw an uptick in quality of transfers as well. Our betting odds are 23rd highest in the country of making the college football playoffs. The momentum seems to be continuing regardless of the reason. Exciting times to be a Flames football fan.

It is interesting to see what's happening, and you're probably correct that we are are seeing some great recruiting skills of Chadwell and crew. I did realize in some of the commits photos of the improvement of LU's event planning for official visits also. One of the photos, the committed recruit (Nik Alston) was styling and profiling in front of a tesla truck

Is this accurate?

Since yesterday…

• Highest rated RB commit ever and highest rated commit ever period.

• Highest rated WR commit ever. (We had one slightly higher in 2020, Stewart, that never enrolled at LU I don’t think)

• Two Highest rated DT commits ever.

It appears we have a great chance or might’ve landed Victor. Another highly ranked DT with a UGA offer.

I can't get excited about individual players anymore until I see them performing on the field. This 4* running back is no different but when multiple guys with P4 offers sign on the same day it's hard not to be excited about the programs trajectory.

I will get excited when they sign a NLI. Will get more excited when they are on the roster.

Come on, you’re at least a little excited!

Right now we sit at 69 overall for our 2025 ranking on ON3. The only non P5 ahead of us is UNLV at 68.

Of course there are a lot more recruits to fill in and a lot of time for our recruits have their rating dropped after they commit to us as they did for Bradford.

It's good to see us bringing in some quality recruits on defense. Based on his time at coastal my only major concern about Jamey chadwell is his track record on the defensive side of the ball.

Time will tell based on how the defense looks this year vs. prior. We lost some key players in the secondary, but our front 6 should be better. I think CB is where I'm most concerned, especially if we can't improve on our ability to rush the QB w/ our front 4.

I don't really expect the defense to be significantly better this year vs last year and I'm not going to start judging him for it until at least year 3. At this point most of those guys on defense were recruited by chadwell but we are still in that middle ground where his HS recruits are underclassmen and the incoming transfers are mostly stopgap solutions to replace outgoing transfers.

Here's a fun fact that I just noticed. In this class we have 6 players that have 247 composite rankings so far. The worst one of the 6 is our 12th highest rated recruit of all time. 3 of our 5 highest rated recruits of all time are in the 2025 class. Our QB commit actually received a big rating bump last month which is rare for one of our commits at this point in the recruiting cycle. Interesting that our current coach has been able to bring in higher caliber talent here than our previous coach that has the #3 recruiting class in the country at the moment.

Roster Limit of 105 will make this an interesting cycle. How many scholarships will LU carry , the allowable amount goes from 85 to 105.

I believe Liberty carries 117 players currently, with 32 walk ons.

Will be interesting to see how many walk ons and current scholarship players “move on” to cut down to the 105 roster limit.

Is that 105 limit official now? Last I heard the house settlement was still being worked through the courts. If so I imagine we'll max out the scholarships by taking on more high school/juco developmental projects and giving some scholarships to the highest performing walk on. Maybe we'll take more chances on upperclassmen FCS transfers that we probably wouldn't have added before unless the coaching staff was confident they'll make the 2 deep.

Most are anticipating the 105 starting in July.

Just read the recruiting club article on aseaofred.com , great information Jon. One thing that stands out to me with this class, this weekend in particular, it is more JUCOs than most any year prior. Feels like there will not be a ton of room for Transfer Portal guys.

Also, with an eyeball test, it looks like we are recruiting mostly against App State, Coastal, WKU, with other offers.

Interested to see who all signs on 12/04! Could be a top 75 ranked class.

Evidently we can expect big recruiting news on the defensive side of the ball soon.

I saw those tweets...

When you look at our depth charts, there really weren't a ton of Seniors on the defensive side of the ball. Jay Hardy, Quinton Reese and Jerome Jolly are it. Our DBs are still on the younger side, so it will be interesting to see if the coaching staff hits the portal hard in search of upgrades. Based purely off of performance from a spectator viewpoint, I'd think CB is our biggest area of need, followed maybe by interior DL.
