Butler is from Covington, GA where the TV show "In the Heat of the Night" was filmed. Get it, "Heat" and "Flames"? :fbplayer

We also picked up another OT transfer from Kentucky the other day. This brings us up to 11 transfers along with the return of CJ Yarbrough at WR.

QB Charlie Brewer - Baylor
RB Dae Dae Hunter - Hawaii
WR Caleb Snead - Campbell
C Cam Reddy - Colorado St.
OT Reggie Young - Juco
OT Naasir Watkins - Kentucky
TE Austin Henderson - Minnesota
TE Bentley Hanshaw - BYU
DT Dre Butler - Auburn
LB Mike Smith, Jr. - Juco
CB Kobe Singleton - Southern Utah

Outside of finding a decent kicker or punter which seems unlikely it looks like every perceived weakness or question mark we had for next season has been addressed in some way. At a minimum each of these guys should add some much needed depth.

Let us not forget Jay Hardy who transferred in last year but was ineligible to play. No disrespect on Elijah James or Ralfs because their play spoke for itself, but adding the 2 DT transfers from Auburn has the potential to make our D-Line group the best it has EVER been.

My bold prediction for 2022 is our sack total increases from 37 to 45 for the year. We graduated 13 of those 37 sacks.

The kicking issues have got to be addressed.

No way he’s happy with that

My inner Big Ten fan might be showing but I love watching a punter that can consistently pin the opposing team deep near their endzone. Instead we go for it on 4th and long on our own half of the field. Special teams can completely change a game for better or worse and it seems like hugh freeze doesn't really prioritize it.

O lineman from Tulsa and now a safety from Indiana. I assume we take a corner of one drops in our lap ? Where else do we add depth? 1 more O Lineman?

This seems like a really solid pick up for us in the secondary. He was a top 1000 recruit with several P5s wanting him. He is a redshirt freshman so he should have 4 years of eligibility remaining. Regardless of position if a guy like this drops in our lap we should take him. Luckily he adds quality depth to arguably our thinnest position.

I remember be bummed when Maurice chose to go to Indiana. Yet, this transfer portal era of college football can be gold mine for teams that were really high on a recruit and still missed out on him. Maurice is a prime example of this.

We picked up two more transfers today. A DL transfer that was a starting linemen at UMASS a few years ago before being pretty dominate at Stephen F Austin the last couple years. If he isn't a starter he will definitely get plenty of playing time at a position that is already the strongest on the team. I believe he only has one year of eligibility.

More importantly we got a solid kicker that is transferring from UNC which was a huge need for us. It looks like he has 4 years of eligibility remaining.

Another member of the Old Men's Club is saying this kicker is a 5-star recruit!!!

Two questions:
1. Can anyone confirm is this 5-star claim is accurate?
2. Has LU football ever signed a 5-star recruit?

Star ratings for kickers are not given by the well known recruiting services, but by "specialists". Alex Probert was actually very highly rated coming out of HS. It's probably not as big a deal as it sounds, but I'm certainly glad we have him.

Kickers are maddening to project at the next level. That is why you see most of the top prospects not even offered a scholarship. Regardless, this seems like a great pickup and curious if we offered him a scholly or if he just wanted to be a Flame.

The NCAA should ban Transfers. They are ruining College Sports. I know there is recruiting going on of players already on rosters - Member of the Old Mans Club

My understanding is that a 5-star rating for punters, kickers and long snappers means that they are D1 quality. Some of the companies that give out those ratings hand out 5 stars like candy if you pay for and attend one of their camps.

His style reminds me of Warren Sapp. Super flexible and quick, shorter height gives him leverage against big O Linemen. Not sure how he holds up as a run stuffer, but has a great knack for getting off blocks and getting in the backfield.

Teagen Lenderink is the platonic ideal of a kicker name. On that alone I can predict that he will be a star.

For the record, my Longhorn wife had SWAG as one of her safety schools along with Evangel.
