Given the uptempo nature of alot of college offenses, having that many linemen is not a bad thing, especially on the defense. You want to get those fresh bodies in and out as quick as possible and having a whole unit ready to come in can only help. I don't think that in saying that he thinks the "cupboard is bare" necessarily.

That is true on defense. Not so much on offense. Trying to sub linemen in and out while running a high paced no huddle offense would slow things down, reduce your advantage and tend to cause confusion for the offense where you want to be creating it for the opponent. As far as substituting an entire ¨unit¨ is concerned, that pretty much never happens.

Also subbing on offense requires the ability for the defense to sub. So they get fresh players to match.
