WALLINGTON – Greg Anderson was too big to play, now he’s primed to be a big success.
The Becton senior lineman is one of North Jersey’s biggest football players, especially at a public school, checking in at 6-foot-5 and a trim 310 pounds.
That’s right, a trim 310.
“It’s a good 310,” said Anderson with a toothy smile.
Anderson was in Wallington Wednesday competing for the Wildcats in the Lineman Challenge during the South Bergen 7-on-7 shootout. Hawthorne won the team title, edging Verona by a half point.
Anderson, who doesn’t turn 17 until next week, was notable because of his size, he flipped tires and blocking sleds seemingly with ease, and showed grace shuffling through cones and under bars to test his agility.
He has drawn the attention of colleges, he rattles off Rutgers, Pitt and Temple as those who have asked to see him, but he’s still largely unknown.
