I can only imagine something like this has been discussed before, but I figured I would start a thread so that people can explain to everyone why they have the username they have, the story or thought process behind it, etc...

Mine, for example, was a joke/frustration from the William and Mary football game. It seemed like we only ran the ball to the left side over and over and over, and we were rather critical... so Sch14teen and I made a little parody of "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce about our predictable (at the time) offense...

"To the left, to the left, every play we call is a run to the left..."

There was more, but I will spare you...

So, that became my username...

Nickname of my fantasy football team...could not come up with anything original, I guess. Avatar is my initials.

Nickname given to me as a joke my junior year in high school. Started using it on message boards a year later. I started having coaches in our conference in baseball knowing me by it and addressing me by it. Then it just stuck.

From Arizona and last name is Jones and decided to spell Jones with a "z".

Jim is my first name, and someone on an Orioles message board called me "Cider Jim" since he knew that I worked for LU and can't drink anything much stronger than sweet (not hard) cider.

...and I'm really waiting to hear how "Hold My Own" got his name.

Pretty simple, I really like Allen Iverson and his (on the court) mentality and all of his motto's (that turned into tattoos)...one of them being "Hold My Own" I used to write that under my baseball cap on all the different teams I'd play on b/c I like to think no matter what situation I encounter I can at least hold my own. It also applies to school, life and business hopefully at all times I can at least hold my own with the best of them


Another finalist was Only the Strong Survive but that was a little to long



And yes I knew it would open me up to a few jokes here and there but it was worth it

Back over a decade ago when I first started posting on the Texas board I was working at a Fox station and my managers asked me to be careful not to reveal my identity. Yeah, its pretty lame but I love having my Swiper avatar.

My nickname in high school sports was "Dave the Beast". I'm mostly German. I needed a cool twist on it.

I graduated in '01. I own the worst name on this board. I'm really way more creative than that. If I had known I was going to be sucked in like I was, I would have gone with something better.

I'm a huge John Wayne fan. I have a ton of his movies on DVD! I picked my favorite John Wayne Character!

i pretty much threw my name together some what. I at times am a very critical person and i watch a lot of sports and sometimes criticize some of the teams too. so that is pretty much my short story concerning my user name.

16 has been my sports number for many years.

14 was given to me the first year I played semi-pro because someone else had 16.
