Maybe if I ever hit the powerball I can send you a few million to buy a decent writer postie. your attempts at humor come off more like like somebody with a complex of some sort

To Jake, welcome to Liberty, itll be the best 4,5,6,7 or even 10 years of your life

SumItUp wrote:I think Layer is here for at least another season, but this thread got me thinking. I've been wanting to go back to Lynchburg and maybe head basketball coach is in my future. My 7th grade rec league team is undefeated and playing for the championship this weekend. Have there been any HMO sightings? I need someone to work on my resume. I'm looking for additional staff members also. You must have coaching experience at a level higher than Upwards. "Coaching Basketball" class at Liberty does not count as coaching experience. Don't PM me if you are interested in being a part of my staff. If you think you are good enough, put it on the line and post it here. If you are an offensive or defensive specialist, please include a synopsis of your base offense/defense with a diagram. If you do not have a diagram available, PAMedic can probably help you out. He's good with graphics.
My defensive philosophy is sort of cutting edge. I like to play a style that keeps my opponent from scoring more points than me. I will say every time I've done that my team has won.
Offensively I'm pretty conservative. I just try to score more points then the team we play. Nothing fancy but pretty effective. I have an amazing record 567-3 when both my offensive and defensive game plans work.

BuryYourDuke wrote:Nothing new there. I do find the source's comments somewhat entertaining though. Raise the conference profile? No FCS move up does that. Not JMU, App State, or GA Southern. I think the quality of play and geographic advantages of the Sun Belt are strong, but it's still the G5 conference everyone wants to leave. Until a school from C-USA or MWC moves to the belt, there won't be any additions "adding to the profile", at least in the way they apparently hope.
That was my thought as well. I can't help but think that the unnamed Sun Belt source is a little biased on this topic. We had multiple well-connected people around here confident that the East division supports adding Liberty. You're right, even North Dakota State would not raise an FBS conference's profile, because all FBS schools (even the worst) are automatically considered higher-profile than all FCS schools (even the best) … which is why Liberty wants in the FBS in the first place.

Honestly, I really do think Liberty's biggest hurdle is its institutional profile. A lot of people either a) have not taken notice of Liberty's growth and think they're still a 5,000-student Bible college; b) know Liberty has grown, but think of it just as a giant version of Bob Jones or Oral Roberts; and/or c) think Liberty and everyone there is just an embodiment of Jerry Falwell Sr.'s early controversial beliefs. In some cases, there are misconceptions at work, and in other cases Liberty has failed to completely distance itself from the "tiny religious school" stereotypes. In either case, I think the FBS move is within reach, but Liberty needs to take the opportunity to prove definitively that it is ready institutionally—not just financially or athletically—to join the big boys. And I'm not entirely sure Liberty is 100% ready to take that final plunge.

Me: No! We are doing it again!! Ahhh!
6-year-old son: Liberty is still up by one point. We could still win.
Me: Son, you don't understand. This is Liberty. It is sad, but this is kind of how it always ends for us.
Son: You never know! I bet they can still win. Maybe the kicker stinks or something.
Me: I'm not that lucky....
[blocked kick, we both run around the living room for 2 minutes, screaming like idiots]
Me: Sorry for being so negative.

The best part (this is not made up, I promise!)- He took a sip of his cherry Kool Aid and said "I think Liberty is awesome."
