It actually looks like all of that nonsense was done manually.

So much for our security and changing passwords. To the rescue, Scorcho! :medic

I think the problem is no matter what you do with software to stop computerized spamming, it can't stop a human being from actually going through the registration process and posting that crap without making it impossible to register for the board........................... which would sorta defeat the entire purpose.

so i cant say "tame" cuss words (dang - you know what it's really supposed to say - for example) in a post, but all this even more vulgar terminology is allowed in the subject line? i don't get it.

Are you really that egocentric? We got spammed, and the administrators haven't been able or had time to take it down yet.

I dont think he was being egocentric, more just wondering how is that wording allowed compared to what other words arent

This post alone is enough to get you banned again. I don't believe for a second that you're this ignorant.

Yes, FlameFans got owned by a spammer. I can (and will) prevent this, but it won't be fun.

Sorry it took me so long to get it cleaned up. Believe it or not, I don't live in front of a computer.

I won't repeat the words that guy posted, but they were by far worse than what I referenced in my original post. Yet the word I referenced was automatically changed without moderator action, but the words that guy posted went unaltered. That is what I don't get - why are "tame" cuss words altered automatically, but such sexually vulgar words (and would be considered down right offensive to some) are left unaltered? I don't really care about how long it took it to be removed since the mods full-time job isn't to regulate this board, I just don't understand why one vulgar word is altered automatically by the software as soon as I press submit, but so many very sexually vulgar and potentially offensive words were allowed by the software.

So why is it not reasonable to question why sexually vulgar words are allowed but "dang" is automatically altered by the software?

Because the software doesn't know every word that we on this board may consider offensive. There are some default words in there that take care of most of the things that would be said on this board, but the built-in dictionary doesn't cover the extremes.

I'm working on other fixes so that hopefully it won't be necessary for someone to sit and correct that.

It's not that it's not reasonable. It's just that it seems silly. They're not "allowed". They're just not in the dictionary that the software uses.

Okay, I just would have figured one of the mods would have gone through and added some of those words.

Those aren't words that are commonly used here so there was no reason to go in and manually add all of those words.

I think I'd be more worried if Schorchy or a mod knew all the terms to add from the start.

I posted this in the "Registration and Troubleshooting" sticky topic, but just so everyone else is aware...

New users must now go through a probationary period after they sign up. Admins/Moderators will have to approve posts from these users and even then they won't be able to do much besides post and reply. (No BBcode, no PM's, etc.) Once a user has proven they're legit, they're moved out of the newbie jail and into the full-privilege registered users group.

More work, but better than being spammed. Actually, I kind of like newbies having to participate to get in. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

You should have mimicked LU's employment app policy by making them write an essay explaining why they think Flamefans is great and how they would add to its greatness.

I was out of pocket last evening and the whole world goes nuts. Those of you that have my number, call me if you see that type of material appearing on the board. Thanks to El Scorcho for tightening up the place. The last thing anyone should have to fear is inappropriate language and/or images on here. We'll do our best to keep this from happening again.
