Hello, FlameFans.com members.

We've had a good run without spam on our board, but it looks like we're dealing with a new round of that in the last couple of weeks. As a result, you will see some changes on the board beginning today.

Most immediately, you will notice that if your password is older than 1 year, you will have to change it in order to use the board. We understand that this is inconvenient, but this is the price of security on a very open Internet.

Some of the changes will also bring added benefits, though. For example, as of today we're able to offer ATOM feeds for all content on the board. This means you can subscribe to FlameFans.com happenings in your favorite news reader application (like Google Reader).

As always, please email webmaster@flamefans.com if you have any trouble and require help.

and I have no idea what ATOM feeds are. Probably not worth even trying to explain to me.

Um, I think we're just using mixed case passwords with a minimum length requirement. It's not even really all that secure. Just enough to hopefully slow down automated dictionary-based attacks.

I could make it A LOT worse. Believe me.

Can we pick and choose who we can make it tough on? My mind is churning right now...

Is the board really disabled right now?

I guess not. The menu at the top says This board is currently disabled. But obviously I posted.

Yeah, I think a bit was still flipped from when I did an upgrade recently. Should be gone now.

The newer version seems a little less stable than the old one, but the spammers have gone away at least. So, I'll consider it a wash for now.
