was reading this thread, and they get to the idea of having a chat room type set up to be used during games. That would be pretty sweet to have, though I know a pain in the butt probably to set up. How hard would it be to set up a thing like this for game day use?

On a real simple level, you can easily set up a temporary chat room usin AIM or other IM services.

We actually did game chats in the old Firehouse site (granted there weren't many of us there). It is kind of old school it only allows you to have context when you are signed in. We have used game threads in a similar fashion and anyone can log on and see where discussions are headed without much effort.

I actually prefer game threads. It's like a slightly delayed chat that is kept on record. They're fun to go back and read the transcript. Although this past season, it was pretty much impossible to do without getting that stupid message about new posts being posted while you were typing.

Sly, please get rid of the "new post added" message before the season starts.
This is another opportunity for Sly to make a plea for an admin to handle these responsibilities.

yeah that was the problem i was thinking would be handled by a game chat. That was ridiculous quite often this past season, and I know it will be worse for me this coming season now that im no longer in VA, nor have the games on TV as a possibility.

If I recall, Scorcho said that the "new post added" was an unavoidable tradeoff for some improvements in SPAM control. It's a non-factor 99% of the time, but it is a pain during a game.

Since then I've figured out that there's an option in each of your User Control Panels to disable that.

User Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> Edit Posting Defaults -> Notify me upon replies by default

Set it to No and you should be good to go.

That didn't seem to do it.

Bummer. I'll see if I can find a way to disable it.
