SPECIAL FRIENDS – Taylor Alford (right) shares a special moment with new friend Brandon Ebert (left) and Kevin Kalibbala, who runs The Greenhouse Project and orphanage in Uganda.
Mission trip to Uganda leaves lasting impact
Summertime, especially the months between high school graduation and freshman year of college, is a time for making memories, bonding with friends, and preparing to embark on the next journey in life’s great adventure.
Summer 2011 included all of these elements for Barnstable graduate Taylor Alford, with most wrapped up in a life-altering mission trip to Uganda where he worked in a local orphanage, learned about the Ugandan culture, and was even given a new name.
“They called me Nsubuga,” Alford said during a recent interview between returning to Centerville and departing for Liberty University in Virginia. “It probably means something, but they couldn’t tell me [because of a language barrier].”
