Entering training camp, this was our deepest and most experienced unit on the defensive side of the ball; however, with the season ending loss to Donald Manns the defensive backs took a big hit. Pat Calvary and Kent Hicks are the expected starters at corner, and Ryan Greiser and Chris Rocco are slated at safety. Manns was the top sub at corner and the starting nickel back. Now, I see Tim Torrence as stepping into his role. Also, Northeastern transfer Brandon Saunders should provide valuable depth at the cornerback position. Larry Claiborne and Chuck Duffey are also expected to see time at safety and/or at corner. Brandon Robinson and Reggie Matthews are both true freshman with the chance to see time in their first year.

Did Elon kill us in the secondary last year? Hopefully they don't have a couple of tall speedy receivers to complement their QB.

Unfortunately they do:

Terrell Hudgins 6'3" 235
Matt Leddy 6'2" 252
Lance Camp 5'9" 182
Johnnie Blackwell 6'1" 184
Sean Jeffcoat 6'2" 191

Last year we had problems tackling in the defensive backfield, and on routes that attack the safeties. That's what W and M did, and what Elon did. One on one, our DB's can handle the WR's, but they run screens and slants and posts and we struggled with those last year.

Hudgins will get drafted he has a higher draft grade at this point than Rashad..it ranks him 13th out of 309 Wide-outs in Division FBS and FCS.
I would say he presents the biggest problem for the DB's at 6'3 230...Hicks vs Hudgins should be a great battle!!

he set the record for most catches ever in a game or something like that last year against us. he's a beast, unfortunately. This game may be a high scoring shootout.
