This is the place to bring your general comments and observations over the course of training camp. If there is a specific topic you want to discuss please create a new thread for it. Otherwise we'll keep the general discussion inside of here for awhile.

Coach's Corner is back and the first installment is with
DBs Coach Marshall Roberts.
And here is an overview of the DBs from the SIDs ...
LibertyFlames.com wrote:The defensive backs, a developing group the first two years under Flames Head Coach Danny Rocco, has turned into what he believes is going to be the team’s defensive strong suit.
“In my mind, the secondary is an area where, all of a sudden, this has become the most mature group of our defense,” stated Rocco. “Our first two years here, I always thought the secondary was the younger group who needed to develop. But now we have some great leadership back there in Patrick Calvary and Ryan Greiser.”
On the inside is Greiser at strong safety, and on the outside is Calvary at cornerback, giving Rocco two skilled players to lead this deep position.

I watched about 30 minutes of practice yesterday, saw you beej, and man, is Rocco a motivator. Some guys were running great routes and not catching balls or the d line was allowing the rb from scrimmage through too easily. Rocco proceeded to get everyone in a circle and motivate them by saying " If you don't want to be here, then leave. Don't waste everyones time!" Let's just say this seemed to have sparked the boys.

Haven't seen much posted here about how things are going in camp. Anyone care to share any of their observations with those of us desperately awaiting Aug 30th??

Nothing too terribly exciting right now. Rocco's gotten a little fired up over lack of focus the last two times I've been out there (Saturday and today). First day in pads was today, but there won't be a ton of hard hitting in camp. No sense getting people injured before Aug. 30.

I drove up as they were walking off the field during my brief slide through town Sunday. I saw essentially nothing so I'm still hoping for more from traditional media outlets.

I saw some pics on the official site with Jonathan Crawford as #8 (not 84). Has he switched?

Yes. He's one of quite a few people to switch. Just right off hand there's him (84 to 8 ), Broggin (12 to 5), Rogers (81 to 4), Jennings (23), DeArmon (17 to 19), Summers (85 to 1), Connolly (11), Saunders (3), and probably a few others. Chapman is a different number than listed on the athletic site as well.

“I’ve never had so many guys hurt in my life,” Rocco said.
In all, 12 players missed practice time, most with nagging muscle pulls and strains. Most were out again Tuesday. Three of the injuries were more serious, though. Pierre Tinsley, who was battling back from a knee injury throughout spring practice, was on the sidelines after suffering a second-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Tinsley, an Amherst graduate and reserve inside linebacker, will be out four to six weeks.
Colin Dugan, LU’s starting nose tackle, suffered a sublexed shoulder and will be out for the next couple of days. Rocco said Dugan will probably have to wear a protective harness for the rest of the season.
Wide receiver Matt Lambros is out for at least four weeks with a broken finger and a pulled hamstring.
Mike Larsson, a freshman walk-on from Monroe, N.C., will likely handle punting duties, and the kicking duties will be split between freshman Matt Bevins and New Mexico State transfer Paul Young.
Larsson is a left-footed, two-step punter who can kick the ball deep. Bevins has “an NFL leg,” Rocco said, and will handle all long-range kicking and will likely handle kickoffs as well.
Bevins and defensive tackle Asa Chapman are guaranteed to play this season. Four others will have a chance at immediate playing time, Rocco said.
Linebacker Jamal Giddens, wide receiver Jimmy Eden, and defensive backs Brandon Robinson and Reggie Matthews are four others who will likely compete for time this season.

The roster doesn't reflect all those changes yet!

I really can't wait to see Jimmy Eden. He looks like he could be fun. Back to Jonathan Crawford, anyone else think he could have a breakout season?

If he doesn't our offense won't be as good as I think it will be.

Agree, and with Lambros being hurt for 4 weeks or so, it's a must.

Also found it interesting that Asa is guaranteed to play. Maybe they have the academics under control. Maybe he and Kent Hicks are studying together.
It seems we may have more Freshman not being redshirted than ever (under Rocco) this year.

No way. They're talking about maybe two freshmen playing this year as opposed to one playing last year as opposed to
seven playing in Rocco's first year.

OK you got me there. I didn't realize 7 played the first year. I still think more may play than 2 though!

If there are no prolonged injuries at either wr, lb, or db then I only see Asa and Bevins playing.
