With our web site renovated, we finally have the capability of blogging on our own site, and I put a small teaser entry up today:

http://www.newsadvance.com/lna/sports/sports_blog/

You'll be able to reach reports from Liberty, Tech and UVa during the season. I plan on being rather active on the Liberty section of the blog, especially since we're having a rather drastic cutback in terms of newsprint. I don't want to cover the beat any less, but we'll have to be more creative with less space. Look for posts from Tuesday-Saturday during football weeks during the season. I'll post Friday from Charlotte with news and notes as they develop, including all-conference teams, selections, etc., and I'll post throughout the preseason as well.

Ah Asheville. I get to go back in September, since I'm staying there after the WCU game.

Blog updated, and look for another post tomorrow. Once August starts, check in often. I plan to be prolific with the posting.

That's a nice primer for tomorrow, Chris.

1. Liberty
2. Coastal Carolina
3. Gardner-Webb
4. Stony Brook
5. Charleston Southern
6. VMI
I am curious to see how everyone votes between SBU & G-W. With the Seawolves so unknown to most of the Big South it is really tough to see whether that will play into their favor with the voting. If PC were eligible I guess I would see them at 4 1/2.

Thanks, Chris.

I agree with you Sly. Chris, I am very excited to read what you have to say about this upcoming season. Now, from someone who is not supposed to have any "bias", do you think we might have a chance on making the playoffs for the first time.
Thanks.

Bob ... it all depends on what happens against Youngstown State and Coastal Carolina. Liberty desperately needs a splash road win, and both would qualify. The Flames can't have another blowout loss like the 42-14 game last year at Elon, either. I think that game hurt them as much as any in terms of making the postseason.

I really am curious to see what happens at Western Carolina. The Catamounts haven't been good recently, but they also haven't rolled over for anyone at home. If LU wins that game easily, then a win at Youngstown becomes a much more distinct possibility.

I was just reading it. Now you have me looking forward to checking out the stories coming out in the next few days.

I have to admit I laughed when you referenced Sparky being a media star. With his personality it seems funny.

Last year we had games on tv, both basketball and football, that weren't part of the Big South schedule.

I can say this now and it's not a big deal... yes I can actually not hold back anymore... but, Kevin Keys has been getting this stuff done...KK can't talk his way out of a wet paper bag!!!! LU will have plenty of games on MASN... You can thank KK for us not having any games on ESPNU...

I'm glad we're getting more games on tv, but why would the Big South not release that with their official tv schedule? The more big south teams/games on tv the better. Unless the deal hasn't been finalized yet, which I'm guessing it hasn't.

Much of the television deals aren't finalized until even the week before a game.

Congrats to Kevin for continuing to get us access to networks the other schools in the league couldn't dream of since they don't produce their own telecasts.

In reference to the MASN package. Since going on the air, MASN has been very good and much improved in terms of quality and programming so getting exposure on MASN again this year is going to be great for LU and for the Big South.

I heard that four or more of our game were on MASN this year and that the games may get picked up by another outlet as well. Any validity to this?

Well, GMTM said we will have "Plenty" of games on MASN. And there could be something else in the works... LU is looking to get some good exposure as we move forward.
