Baltimore, Md., native Courtney Bridget has an intriguing frame and could end up playing a number of positions at the next level. He is already hearing from a number of programs that are interested in getting him out for a visit and camped at Maryland this summer. We spoke with him this week to get a feel for which schools jump out at him early and found he is very open.

With a 6-foot-2.5, 180-pound frame, Calvert Hall College High School athlete Courtney Bridget could end up playing either cornerback or free safety at the collegiate level depending on how much muscle mass he packs on over the next year or so. He is already hearing from a number of programs around the country and does have a few that have piqued his interest early.

“I camped at Maryland this summer and had a really good time as it was a great experience for me,” Bridget said. “I learned a lot from the coaching staff and the players there and felt like I came out a better player then when I went in.”
And here are a few details from his junior season ...
As a junior, Bridget collected 43 tackles, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

He has a max bench of 220 pounds, a max squat of 355 pounds and holds a 2.9 core GPA in the classroom. Bridget will be taking the SAT in May of 2009.

#1 Overall Prospect c/o 09: Bridget Committs

Exciting news!!! Bridget committed to LU, about 2 weeks ago. A buddy of mines brother has real good sources within the Flames Football organization, and said the kid verball committed to Coach Clark (D-coordinator), and then to Head Coach Rocco. This is huge. I've been told Bridget was the Flames #1 overall rated prospect for the 09 recruiting class. To be a DB and to be rated #1 overall, that has to say something. From what I've been hearing the kid is huge, and fits the Flames Cov.2 scheme extremely well. He's about 6'2'' 190 pound cornerback/free-saftey, who recently ran a 4.48 forty, vertical jumped a 35'', short shuttle of 4.26, broad jump of 10'3'', and 185 pound bench press 13 times, forgot the source where I got it, but if i find it I'll post it.. I'm excited about this signing, don't know bout you all but this is extremely huge. But am a bit scared and skeptical the kid might de-committ, as he's got an offer from Oregon (yes the team with all the jersey colors), but heard he doesn't want to go that far west, and over the past couple of weeks, I'm hearing on the recruiting circuit that Rutgers, Temple are about to offer, with West Virginia already giving it the ok. I hope he stays true to his commit. He's going to be a stud. :D

Thanks for the word of his commitment. With his size he does make an intriguing prospect.

WVU could be trouble but I don't think we have to worry much about Temple. Rutgers is a wild card. They looked like they were on the rise but who knows. He's most likely better off here. (PT, competition, etc.)

185 pound bench press 13 times
LU's weightroom can help him improve that.

long arms have trouble with the bench test. But he could stand to bulk up anyway.

I can confirm this Sly... Verballed back at Junior day...

If it is true, then it is a great pick-up. I just want to know if flamer is his agent to be???

Welcome to the LU family, Courtney.

if he indeed signs this would be a nice pickup, but any of those schools could get him. temple is in the MAC now which makes them more attractive and due to the fact that their coach al golden recruited MD when he was at UVA and west virginia and rutgers are good programs in the big east. i do hope he honors the verbal.

The guys who handles Maryland for Scout tells me that he checked today and it appears he is not currently committed to the Flames. But apparently we remain in the mix.

So, let's see. Both his "agent" and Givemethemic say he's committed and Rivals says no! Interesting. Seems like some are giving out bad info or the kid is unsure!

I changed the header to reflect a "soft" commitment. There is no doubt that he has given a verbal commitment to the LU staff. But at the same time there are indications that he is still shopping. This is very common in recruiting. Keep in mind we are dealing with 16- and 17-year-old kids who are making decisions that affect the next 4-5 years of their lives. So it should not be surprising if they have second thoughts or a wandering eye.

Hopefully he signs his letter of intent in February and arrives on campus. Apparently he is trying to finish up classwork early so he could be a spring enrollee to get started on his college career.

I stick with my statement until my source tells me otherwise and trust me the source is in the know!!

I believe in the the old saying "Verbals Mean Nothing."

Without getting into a battle of who has the "better" or "real" sources, while there is a significant amount of embellishment in Flamingfootball08's account of the Courtney Bridget story, the fact of the matter is that he is committed to Liberty. If you rely on Scout or Rivals to confirm a commitment you will be waiting quite a while as they tend to not even update guys who commit to 1-AA programs. Example, Pat Mays was getting all kinds of play on Rivals until he committed, now there is no mention of his commitment.

I agree 100%, Florida Flame. But the Scout guy made contact today with the Bridget camp and got back with me. I used to contact athletes directly when I ran a site years ago. But with my connections to the school, I don't want to put anyone in jeopardy by making any illegal contact. That's why outside sources are great for verification.

I hear you Sly. If in fact that Scout guy contacted Courtney's family and they were noncommital then all I can say is I think Coach Rocco is not going to be happy becasue that is not what the family is telling some of the asst. coaches as well as Coach Rocco. Hopefully this young man won't be seduced by the media circus that recruiting has become. Liberty is off to an unprecedented start in recruiting for a FCS program from what I can see. It appears to me that their train is leaving the station with or without Courtney.

You're description of the situation is the same as mine. But I am hopeful that Courtney spends 4 or 5 glorious years on the mountain and that still is a strong possibility.

Do you have any offers?

I have an offer from Liberty University down in Lynchburg, Virginia. Back in March, Oregon said they were going to offer. They wanted to see my grades and make sure I could qualify. I just sent in my NCAA clearinghouse [materials three days ago], so it’s just a wait-and-see for my grades with the schools. I expect everything [to be OK]. I’ve been on top of my grades and everything. ... I’m in summer school class just getting credits right now. I don’t know if it’s possible -- I just have to talk to coach Smith [and the administrators at Dunbar] -- but I could graduate early. I don’t know where that’s going to go. My plan is to try and graduate early and get into college for January.

Nice find and it seems to back up the soft commit status.

I think Sly Fox hit it dead on. I do know for a fact Bridget verballed back @ Junior Day, but just like every other recruitee out there this is all new. Everything is happeneing so fast, so I would not be surprised if Bridget is still talking to other coaches or taking other visits, its part of the recruiting game, and I'm quite sure LU coaching staff knows this is going to happen between now and signing day. I mean your dealing with a kid whose receiving D1 offers now that his highlight tape is starting to make it out, so I'm not shocked @ all. But I've heard Bridget is also planning another visit down here sometime in the next couple of weeks, so this does show LU is still in the mix. :?:
