I thought Id do a little something to keep things flowing during the summer so Im starting a few discussions on some of the returning players for 2008:



Rashad Jennings, RB

Last season, Jennings had a monster year finishing with a team leading 1,113 yards and 15 touchdowns, and was named Big South Offensive Player of the Year. He returns to a very experienced backfield with Zach Terrell and Brock Smith (both of who will be covered later in the summer)

I think so too. If he can put up a thousand yards even after missing the first two (or was it three games I forget) I dont think 1500 is out of the realm of possibility for this season.

A full season without missing any games could amount to a potentially All-American type of season. He may have to work a little harder for holes with so many new faces to start the season. But he's a horse.

I agree. If he gains over 1,500 yards on the ground, that should be an all-american type of year.

I know it's early, but what are his chances at being drafted?

A big year would put him in the mix. Then he'd need to head to speed camp next spring (I'd suggest Plex here in Houston) to improve his timings.

I'm sure his timings could always use improvements but wasnt this one of his strengths? I remember hearing some track coach's putting him on the laser b/c they wanted his legit time and they were all stunned...maybe I'm wrong...

As a I-AA RB he needs to have eye-popping numbers to overcome the perception that his stats were overinflated due to subpar competition.

If he has a good season, I am sure he will get drafted. Remember Flacco last year... he had a good season and with his size and athletic ability, he was drafted early.

I think Rashad will get drafted because of his size and the combo of power and speed that cider was talking about. But his draft stock obviously hinges on the type of season he has next year.

QB vs RB....big difference. Plus Delaware is a pretty good 1-AA team.

If Rashad goes for 200 yards a game, 20 touchdowns, and we have a better than average record, I think he could be a lock second day pick.

You keep saying this 1500 number like it's going to be easy. There's one thing you have to remember: he's not going to be playing the entire game in a few games. The two Division II schools he won't touch the ball after halftime. You'd also have to think that we're going to get a big lead on at least one or two of the other teams where he won't play much in the fourth quarter. That will cut down his yardage. He would have to average 125 yards per game to get 1500 yards. With how much he'll be sitting in some games, along with how much he catches the ball, 1500 yards rushing isn't a given. 1500 all-purpose yards definitely is if he's healthy, but 1500 is going to be tough to get on the ground.

That is a fair point SJ. I just said it wasnt out of the realm of possibility. Will it be easy? Probably not. Do I think he can do it? Yeah. Will he? we shall see.

I sat down and watched the 07 highlight tape and was impressed by 3 things concerning Rashad. His breakaway speed through Toledo's secondary left the defense in the dust (a team that had 2 players drafted this spring). His stiff arm is a powerful force, as he delivers blows with it instead of just extending. His blocking downfield for Zach is unselfish and abusive. These are things that will not go unnoticed by the experts.

Think about what you just asked....50% of the regular posters on this board never saw Sam Gado run in college.

But 50% have; and the other 50% have probably seen him in the NFL. I'm talking about size, power, and speed types of comparisons, or any others that posters would care to make.

I don't know if you can even compare Rashad toGado. Rashad has some what of break away speed where Gado is an excellent short yard conversion back because of his size and strength. In a foot race, Rashad would win.
