It might just be our biggest show ever.... I promised this about a month ago and we had some problems becuase of the weather and scheduling but it is finally going to happen. Coach Rocco will be live in studio to take your phone calls.. (10:05 EST) we have him for about 10-15 minutes. We will talk to Coach Dunton and recap the week and preview the BSU game on Sat night. Also we will recap the Women's week in hoops and get you ready for the game vs. Winthrop. Rashad Jennings will drop by and give us his story as to why he is at Liberty and the impact that he is ready to make.. I am trying to conform Stevie Ray and will hopefully have word from him tomorrow. Best part of all we will be giving away tickets to all 3 of the Flames games on Saturday, Winthrop @ LU , BSU @ LU and IUP @ LU. The coveted phone number is 1-866-890-0909. It would mean alot to coach if the real Flamefans would make there voices heard on Saturday morning and let him know that we support him 100%. If you can't call in but have a question? Shoot me an e-mail at jbrooks@liberty.edu and I will make sure that it is asked. This Saturday Morning from 10-11 AM.

What a great lineup! I wish I was going to be around. I dont have any questions, but I want to be public with my support of Coach Rocco, Rashad, Coach Dunton and Coach Green. Sounds like a great lineup. If there is an audio archive - I would love to hear it.

Summary of Coach Rocco's In-Studio Interview:

Coach Rocco talking about new staff members individually including their resumes.

On Offensive Philosophy: "We're going to get into more 2-back sets. Want to run with power & authority to set up pass game. A lot of similar formations to what we had at UVa. We want to take some deep shots in the pass games. But we want to be multiple and be physical with O-line to wear down some defenses to win some close games in the 4th."

On Recruiting: "I don't know if our strategies here will mirror what we did at Virginia. We've been aggressive getting guys on campus. We have 17 or 18 commitments with several guys in this weekend at tonight's basketball game. We want to get guys on campus so we can build a winner."

On RB Situation: "I've thought about everything you can think about. I'm constantly looking at that roster. If things go out the way I envision then we should run 75-80 plays a game. I want a 50-25 balance and Rashad can't carry all of those. All the good teams have at least two key RBs. I plan on offering backfield sets with both Zach & Rashad in the backfield at the same time. Zach does have versatility but I think weneed to move forward with 2 RBs and allow us to do what I've said I want to do and that's run the ball with authority."

On Zach Davis: "We're excited about Zach. Storm Davis is his father and he was a longtime MLB pitcher. He was down at Trinity Christian Academy in Florida. One of the first things I noticed when I arrived was a lack of depth at the line. So he will help us immediately and compete for a starting position in the spring on the offensive line. To be able to bring a midterm guy into here is huge."

In response to my question about attuitude he talked about bringing enthusiasm to the program. I admit I was impressed with him.

From GMTM's taped interview with Coach Dunton ...

Positives from the Winthrop loss: "We had some kids that competed like Div I athletes. Winthrop is certainly a notch in fron of us right now. We need to see if we can get back to that level by the Big South Tourney so we can still win a championship."

About Damien Hubbard: "Damien has done a nice job in the last week & a half in his practice habits. And that has brought his game to a higher level on the court in game action."

About Offensive Struggles: We've been a donut with our ability to find some way to score in the paint. We can put Doug Stewart & Rell Porter in there to try and give us some matchup strengths so we can be more competitive to win.

About Rell Porter: "For any program you have to cultivate commitment and character. Larry has shown his love for Liberty University and basketball. As we add players to the program we want to build a foundation for the future."

About Birmingham Southern:
"They are playing really well right now being 4-1 in league. Some Princeton-type offense. They've gone away from that a bit. The Flames have their hands full and we're going to need a big crowd out there who can make a difference for us."

Coach Handy on hosting IUP tonight at LaHaye Ice Center:

On Facilities: "Its 54,000 square feet in total. It hosts an NCAA-regulation length rink. Can host parties and events in the facility."

About IUP: "We have a great deal of respect for them in them as a team. But we believe we are the better team. We played us in the middle of November but we feel like we didn't play the best we could. But we're moving forward and we feel if we play their forechecks we can beat them tonight."

Why the success?:
"Part of the success is our commitment to the fans and the community as well. From the get go because our players are not scholarship, the student body relates to our guys because they are just like them and yet trying to win a national championship. We're trying to do the same thing in our community so that people will identufy with our branding and program."

About Conference Situation:
"The big thing is we have two more conference games against Maryland. Really any of the top 5 teams could be conference champions on any given night. But I feel the two top contenders are Liberty & IUP. Both programs seem to play the top comeptition and rise to the competition."

About Getting Scott back in the lineup: "Its nice to have depth again with older guys. We kept Scotty out of the lineup last night because we wanted to use him this evening. But the maturity that comes with being 20 or 21 as opposed to being 18. That's big in the lockerroom particularly when we get down."

On Tonight's Crowd: "Get their early to get a good seat. We have brought in bleachers from all over Thomas Road and LU."

I haven't worked in radio since 1989 back in Lynchburg. Twenty years ago I sat in the same studios they used today when I was a student working at the station that was then WLBU-AM before they got the FM frequency. I'd like to work out a gig with one of the sports talk stations here in Houston on the side. As for the voice, I sound exactly like my dad and his dad before him. Its either a blessing or a curse depending on the day.

Coach Rocco:

did he mean 75-80 carries? (I'm assuming that it wasn't per carries per season, or yds per game)

Coach Dunton:
Positives from the Winthrop loss: "Winthrop is certainly a notch in fron of us right now. We need to see if we can get back to that level by the Big South Tourney so we can still win a championship."
boy, thats hopeful- talk about a positive attitude

Coach Handy:
On Tonight's Crowd: "Get their early to get a good seat. We have brought in bleachers from all over Thomas Road and LU."
that's what I was wondering, cool.

Thanks for the pub fellows... I had the opportuninty to show coach the website and I am working hard to get some summaries from him here in there... Nonetheless though he was pleased this morning... I am gonna wait on the Rashad interview cause I want to get Stevie Ray this week and have them both on... but there is potentially more help on the way.
