I know it's not their first choice but...

We all want our boys to play in the NFL. It's the best league in the world and would bring the most notoriety to our players and our school. However, with that being said, the Arena League is a legitimate league now. If the NFL doesn't pan out, which one of our guys do you think would be best for the AFL?
Personally, I think Wynton would be amazing in the Arena League. He's fast and shifty and can break out of tackles, all of which you need at that level.
Also, I think Stevie Ray would be great in that league. Everyone says he's undersized for the NFL, but with his size, strength, and speed, he'd be perfect playing linebacker in the AFL, and could then turn around and play fullback if needed on the offensive side of the ball like a lot of players do in that league.
We all want our guys in the NFL, but who do you think has a shot at the AFL if the NFL doesn't work out?

I think you answered your own question. I agree with you 100%. Wynton's style is perfect for the Arena League. Shifty, has good speed and is a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Stevie Ray, as you said, might be too small for the NFL but with his style of play he could be a great asset to a team in the AFL.
With that said, I'd like to see these guys get a shot at being in an NFL camp. It's every kids dream, and I'd love to see them make a practice squad or even become special teams standouts. Unlikely but I'd like to see these kids get a shot at their dreams coming true.

Wynton has a few teams in the mix right now just waiting for the invite. All he has to do is be able to get his foot inside the door and he will have a good chance at making a roster.

Anybody hearing anything regarding Stevie Ray and the Redskins?

Hadn't hurt it but it doesn't surprise me. It's probably just an invite though, not a contract, right?

Not sure of any details. I am wondering how this works with any of the four guys and their new teams. Is there a temporary contract offered, that is renegotiated after they make the cuts in Aug.? Or is it already set up, contingent on making the team? However it works out, it speaks well for our program and the bridging between FCS and Professional football, and it has to be noticed by future candidates from FBS players who are looking for playing time and exposure. Hmmmm......, what might the impact be for the 2008 season?

Some guys (Vince and Stephen) are given contracts. Others are just invited to camp. Those with the contracts will at least be getting paid during workouts and all of that throughout the summer.

NFL Contracts are not guaranteed. Outside of the signing bonus, the franchise can walk away from the rest of the money at any moment with little recourse for the players. And even when you are on the team during the season you don't get a full game check unless you are active (ask Samkon what that is like).

He's been on FlameFans from time to time ... at least that's what he indicated to me.

Right, they can be cut at any time, but at least those guys are getting paid something for now and aren't just being invited to a tryout.
