Depth not the problem it was for Flames football program before Rocco arrived

By Chris Lang
Published: March 26, 2008

Danny Rocco took a moment Wednesday to reflect on his first spring as Liberty’s football coach.
The Flames had two quarterbacks on the roster, neither of whom would actually still man the position in the fall. The offensive line was a mess. Depth was non-existent.
To understand how far along the Flames are three years into Rocco’s tenure, one only has to peek at the depth chart heading into spring practice, which opens tonight at Williams Stadium. As Rocco rattled off names of potential contributors in the defensive backfield, he ticked off 11 names. He talked of four quarterbacks who could help his team win games.
Liberty must replace several key players, including a probable NFL draft pick in linebacker Vince Redd. But because Rocco has been able to stockpile depth in the last two recruiting classes, the prospect of replacing players like offensive linemen Stephen Sene, Eddie Pinigis and Marshal Ausberry doesn’t seem as daunting to Rocco as some would think.
“I definitely think we’re going to find a way to win our fair share of games and compete for a conference championship again,” Rocco said.

Will Brock really punt?

I highly doubt he will be our punter unless there are injuries. The coaching staff has to prepare for all the "unless'" though.

He's punting this spring. That's all we know.

Danny White pulled it off for years in the NFL. I'm sure Brock could as well if that's what Coach Rocco feels is in the best interests of the team.

Here is the first line about kicking in the article:
Chris Lang wrote:Very little will be resolved until freshman Matt Bevins joins the team in the summer.
Brock and Wes will split the punting in the spring but that is not any sort of an indication about the fall.

as did Randall Cunningham- who once had a 91 yd punt, against the hated New York Giants- I believe.

Medic was just scrambling to find anything to avoid thinking of Danny White torching his beloved Eagles way back when.

As an avowed Cowboy hater myself, that is one allowance I can always give anyone. Landry & Staubach (and Bob Lilly for that matter) are exempt from my contempt for that franchise.

i love the idea of brock punting. i heard he was really good in hs, and i think it would definitly put a new twist on the offense that could mess up other teams

They were my second favorite team growing up before Jerry Jones bought and then destroyed all that was good associated with the franchise. After a few years of apathy toward the team, I had to cover them for six years and a general disgust came about. Sorry.
